London, January 26 The " Times " New York correspondent says that America accepts the Alaska Commission as a proof of England's friendship and lastiDg bond of the union. It will probably result in. a greater diplomatic triumph, to- all concerned than the HayPauncefote treaty expected.. The Senate will notify the acceptance.. It adds that Lord Chief Justice Alverstone willprobably be one of the British Commissioners. The Aden-Hinterland Dispute. The Aden-Hinterland dispute is becoming acute, and both British and Turkish troops are being reinforced. A Brilliant Speech. Pakis, January 26 In the Chamber of Deputies, M. Jaures, one of the leaders of the Socialist party, made a brilliant speech, defending Socialism in opposition to the Prance-Russian alliance, and approving of a general disarmament. The speech has attracted much, attention in. Paris, though M. Jaures' faith is in a purely defensive character. The Triple Alliance is not shared. ; Berlinj January 26 The newspaper " Vossiche Zietung " remarks that.M. Jaures is mistaken in believing that France will recover AlsaceLorraine by peaceful methods. Constantinople, Jan 26 The Grand Vizier has instructed the Turkish Treasury to cease all payments until further orders. A Notorious Criminal. Sydney, January 26 Digby Grand, a notorious criminal, was remanded to-day in connection with the recent extensive burglary at Paddington. The Holiday. Melbourne, Jan. 26. At the A.N.A. fete, the speakers at tho luncheon included the Governor and the Premier. The latter, referring to State affairs, said there had been too much fiddling with Socialism. (A Voice asked— " What about New Zealand" ; and another suggested that Victoria would go back to sweating). The Premier ignored these interjections.
