Mr L. Tice, Third Vice* President and General Manager cf the later* national and Great Northern, writes from his headquarters in Palestine, TexasBeg to advice that we do not employ or keep in the service of this company any man who uses intoxicating liquor as a beverage.

General Superintendent A. W. Johnstone, of the New York, Chicago, and St. Louis Railway, replifid~ We have had in force a rigid rale which prohibits the use of intoxicants either on or off duty by the employees of this company. In employing men, we exclude men of known intemperate habits, but make no distinction otherwise. Men found guilty of violating our rule are etim-* manly dismissed from the service.
