THE POLITICAL SITUATION.
Wellington, April 30. His Excellency the Governor has sent a message to Mr Seddon, requesting his attendance at Government House on Monday afternoon. This, it ia believed, is with a view to the reconstruction of the Cabinet. It is freely mentioned in town that Mr Seddon will recommend that Sir Patrick Buckley should be appointed Premier, and Mr Ward as Colonial Treasurer, the other Portfolios remaining as at present. It is also mentioned that should Sir Robert Stout be returned for one of the vacant seats he will, take the head of the Government. It is believed that the death of the Premier will delay the meeting of Parliament for a fortnight.
Our South Rakaia correspondent writes: —Tfie new* received on Thursday of the death of the Hon John Ballance, was received unexpectedly, and caused many expressions of regret from all classes ir espective of political feeling, and it « ooked on as a national calamity, as his osa will be much felt in the colony.
