The Railway Commissioners have issued the following statement: —The building of additional rolling stock, which has been proceeding for some years, now having entirely ceased, and no funds having been provided for carrying on more work of this description, has led to the discharge of a number of hands from the railway workshops in the different centres throughout the colony. The Commissioners regret that orders for the new rolling stock for the Government railway extension to Mokihinui should not have been issued to them, as it would have saved them from discharging a number of men.
