ROAD BOARD.
WAKANUL
The monthly meeting of the Wakanui Road Board was held at the Board's office, Moore street, on Saturday. Present— Messrs M. Bruce (Chairman), D. Johnston, G. W. Leadley, and J. Quigley. CORRESPOND GNCE. From the South Rakaia Road Board, forwarding explanation re expenditure of money paid for the maintenance of Boundary road, and also enclosing a resolution passed by the above Board respecting control of same. From the Agricultural Department, Wellington —c small birds nuisance, urging the Board to take some united action with other local bodies to deal with the pests. From Mr J. Gibson—asking paymentfor making a crossing over a water race of Great South road.—Left with Mr Quigley to enquire into. From Mr J. Carlan—requesting that his name be taken off the Valuation Roll for R.S. 22901, and that of T. Oavill substituted. The Clerk to reply that Mr Carlan must obtain the consent of Mr T. Cavill before the alteration can be made. From the Commissioner of Taxes—forwarding a form of declaration of the amount of rates collected to enable that office to send the amount of subsidy due to the Beard. From Mr C. E. Fooks re certain rates alleged to be owing to the Board.—The Clerk to write explaining that the matter had been satisfactorily settled. From Hampstead Town Bown— re share of cost of making footpath at Chertsey.— The Clerk to reply. overseer's report. Mill Koad.--That"portion of this road between Milton road and Cochrane'a road is much overgrown with gorse. Mr Lamb will clean the same after sowing ; also below Cochrane's road past Mr G. P. Hoatten's property the road requires repairing and shingling.—This work was postponed until the beginning of spring. Fairfleld Raid. —Mr Rickmanhas com menced grubbing the gorse on this road facing his property ; and Mr J. Hampton and Mr J. D. Cluoas will also clean the road after they have put their crops m. Beach Road.—The County Engineer will have about ten chains of the county race which runs alongside the road facing Mr Corbett's paddock deepened about eighteen inches, as at present there is not sufficient fall, and alter much rain the water backs up causing the road to be always soft m that particular length. When this work is completed the road wili require patching from the Wakanu t Township road to the top of the terraoo Mr Cr. P. Hoaten has tilled m the ruts past Mr J:*s. Brown's property. Cochrane's RoaJ.—Mr D. Cochrane has re-^ravelled the ford near Selling's, and also made a crossing between this road and Wakanui road, Wakanui Road. --• There are two dangerous holes m the water race which crosses this roa-1 nearly opposite Mr O. Cochn»ne's house, —The Clerk was in* structed to write to the County Council respecting the matter. GORSE ON KOAD. The Clerk was instructed to give Mr F. Amos notice to remove all the off the road adjoining bis property. BENTS. It was resolved that the Board's solicitor be requested to take action to recover the rents outstanding from the occupiers of the Board's cottages.—The Clerk was instructed to give the necessary information. ACCOUNTS. The amount of £26 17s 7d was passed for payment, and the Board adjourned until August 6.
