Acclimatisation Society.
There Y/as a good attendance of members at the annual meeting yesterday afteriioon, in the Somerset. Hotel, of the Ashburfcon Acclimatisation Society. Mr Dottald McLean j)reSiided; arid moved the adoption of a satisfactory balance sheet, which showed rftc^ipts amounting to £43 for adults! licenses, £410s for juniors, 5s for ladies, 10s for visitors, and 10s if or endorse fees—in all £48 15s, which with a refund of secretary's trayellinc expenses, £1 Is ty&, and a balance from last year of £26 lid, made up a oreditable income side of the account. On the other side, £20 5s represented fish purchased from the Ohristchurch Society, £40 17s lid, the balance at the bank, and i/he remainder small incidental items. The Committee reported verbally on what had been done during the year. The chief item was the payment to the Christchurch Association of £20 in cash on the occasion of jfche Maori prosecutions, but for which sum the Society were to receive in September fonlhmlis to the amount named. It was decided to leave the placing of the fontinalis in the hands of the Com.mjtj;ee. Jt w-as further reported thafc £10 had been paid for quail, and about ninety brace jiaW been turned out in the district. £he report and' balance sheet were adj6p|ed. Mr Shury reported the receipt of? a telegram from the Marine Department, stating, that the fishing in the district would open oh September 22. The Christchurch Society had opposed the earlier opening" of the fishing, while this Society, desired the opening to be fixed for the 15th/ The telegram ho had read was a compromise between the two dales, September 15" and October 1. It had been argued that,the fish were no^ in order oil the earlier date, but he had presented fco the Governor a ttm r pofmd tish, which his Excellency had declared to be of first class quality arid condition, notwithstanding-the^argument that the ijsh we.r§ not Jn order! The following officers were elected j—Pr§si4enfc-rMr \\ r; 0. Walker ; Vice-Presidents— Messrs Shury and McLean; Secretary—Mr E B. Simpson ; Treasurer—Mr E. G. Crisp; Committee —Messrs Fox, Pilbrow, Cambridge, BfrcL and Stephens. An honorarium of £$ was votgj tq ftan^ep Gale And the services of thg Secretary were acknowledged by ordering the refunq of his last license fee, and the issue ojf a license free for the ensuing sga^on,f A motion by Mr Quaue was carried-—''Tfhat it be a recommendation to the Committee to spend no more money this season on the purchase of fish !> —Mr Quane being of opinion that, to put young fish from a distance into the river was only a waste of money, as they were eaten up almost
