EDUCATION BOARD.
From the extended report of the I Education Board's sitting on Thursday,' we cake the following items of loc.il interest :.—The Buildings Committee reported that the Dromore School Committee again applied foi wire nebbing over the spouting', l>uu ib was res >lved that in the state ot the funds such an expenditure could not be authorised! Blind rollers ' at the house were allowed. A letter was received from Mr Grigg agreeiug to sel) 3i- acres for a school site ai Eiffelton. 7t was resolved to communicate with Mr Grigg about the supply of bricks for the school building, also to recommend the Committee to adopt his suggestion that the district should be called Toi Toi. It was resolved to call for tenders for the school at Ealing at the same time as for the school at Eiffelton. A bell was allowed, provided the Wakanui Committee agreed to put it up. On the report of the Clerk of Works, some repairs wereauthorised at Ashburton Forks. On the report of the Clerk of Works, a new closet and some repairs were authorised at Springhuin. It was resolved to adhere to the practice ef declining to accept orders given by contractors on the amounts due under their contracts. The report was adopted. The Appointments Committee reported —Mr A. Bramley was appointed master ab Summerhill. A letter was received from the master ab Winchmore, pointing out that up to the end of last year he had been paid less than the salary provided by the scale. It was explained that Winchmore was not made a school district till the Ist January last, and that previously the school had been conducted on the footing of an aided one only. A further communication from the Wakanui School Committee, respecting the copy books, was received, and was referred to the Inspectors for-their report. The Inspectors reported that the regulations permitted the us« of the Southern Cross copy books, if the Wakanui Committee wished to substitute tli^in for Vere Foster's. It was resolved to inform the Committte .accordingly. -.*,' ■ ;;, -: The Board acceded to a petition asking for alterations in the boundaries of the Ddrie school district.
