The Rev Mr Klllan, whose wish to become a lawyer was discussed at the last meeting of the Presbytery, wrote a lengthy letter tendering hia reugra'ion of thu charge of Whaugarei to the Presbytery, and, In the course of his letter, state L - “ la doing so I wish my resigning to be regarded as a protest—the strongest one I otn make—against (1) the inadequacy f the stipend providei for country ministers In the Presbyterian Churches of New Zealand ; (2) the unworthy means that ate resorted to in order to raise that inadequate stipend; (3) neglect of ont’y log country district-* by stronger and mo e wealthy charges ; (4) breach of the f urth commandment occasioned by ministers having to tak« long j urneys and conduct numerous services in their scattered preaching stations on each Lord’s Day.’ {Several- members of the P»esbyte r y strongly disenled from the sentiment* contained In the letter. Just as the Deputy-Registrar of the Supreme Court, Mr A. D Hsrvey, was leaving the Court, to-day, he was observed to fall down, and on the Registrar going to Lis assistance he expired almost immediately. A blood vessel having burst was the pause of death The Court room was covered with blood.
