ACCIDENT AT BRIGHTWATER.
MESSRS NEWMAN INJURED. " (By Telegr&pfa.— From Our Own Correspondent. ) Wakefield, June 1. Messrs Harry and Tom Newman, coach proprietors, met with a serious accident this afternoon after their return from town. They were schooling a young horse in a trap, and called at Fairey's store, Brightwater. It is stated that Mr Harry Newman got out and went into the store, when the horse played up, and backed the trap under the verandah, when Mr Tom Newman was thrown out, he striking the top of the verandah. Mr Harry Newman ran out, and endeavored to stop the horse, but was knocked down and also injured about the head. Another account says that both were in the trap, and thrown against the verandah roof. The fact remains that both are seriously cut about the head, and that Harry, who remained unconscious for some time, was apparently the more seriously injured. Dr Pearless was sent for, and he informed me that no bones are broken, but he does not like to say too much about the injuries to the head, which are serious, the cuts being severe and deep, but there was no evidence of fracture. When he left Mr Harry was rallying. Great sympathy is felt for the brothers here. Later information received by telephone indicated that both the brothers had rallied, and were quite cheerful, makiDg light of their injuries. Dr. Gibbs passed through from the Buller at half-past seven.
