OFFICER CADETS
Parade At Trentham Before Colonel Goss FIRST APPOINTMENTS LIST Officer cadets from the Army School of Instruction, Trentham, who have been given first appointments to commissioned rank, paraded on the racecourse . recently before Colonel L. G. Goss, X.Z.S.C., Colonel of the General Staff, who was acting as representative of the Chief of the General Staff. Major-General Sir John Duigan, C. 8.. D.S.O. They carried out the ceremonial of the inspection well, were steady, and up to the good standard which has been a feature of officers produced by the Army School since the start of the war. On the inspection Colonel Goss was accompanied by Lieut.-Colonel Sugden, officer com manding the school.
This parade is likely to be the las', of its strength because of the new scheme for training officers for the Second N.Z.E.F. in the Middle East In future only sufficient officers will be produced in New Zealand from the territorial force and units in the mobilization camps to train troops' in -camps and provide officers for the journeys overseas.
Second-Lieutenant G. F. Hart, one of the officer cadets, was in command of the parade, and other officer cadets led the three platoons into which the cadets were divided.
An interesting feature of the parade was the presence of several officers of th? Fiji Defence Force; who have done a course at the Army* School and were commissioned along with the New Zealand officer cadets. They will i eturn to Fiji and take their place, in the Fiji local defence force. Colonel Goss addressed the newly commissioned officers in the' lecture hall, stressing to them the importance of keeping up to date in military knowledge. He spoke to them of theii responsibilities and advised ' them on their duty as leaders. He advised them also of their responsibility for the welfare of those under their command and about their relations with ' the men and their superior officers.
