FORT DORSET NOTES

Once again Wellington is bathed in gorgeous sunshine and the men of Fort Dorset are making good use of this weather.

Cricket, tennis and soft-ball interunit competitions are in progress and the standard of play is very good. This was proved quite recently when the 10th Heavy Regiment Soft-ball team, which is entered in the Wellington Soft-ball Competitions, defeated a city team by 75 points to 16, which I should think must have set a New Zealand record.

A water-polo team, representing the Fort, is entered in the Wellington Centre’s Competitions and by all accounts it looks as though the team will be exceptionally strong.

Swimming is also 'very popular and swimming parades are conducted, I thus enabling soldiers not being able | to swim to learn this exhilarating i sport.

Gap Battery held on the 27th November its first Battery Athletic Meeting in the form of Tabloid Sports, the whole battery personnel off duty competed in at least one event, making a most enjoyable afternoon. We hope that the Inter-Battery Athletic meeting to be held on the 11th December, will prove very successful. We are indebted to the Olympic Athletic Club for the donation of two cups to be awarded for the most points gained in field and track events during the season.

Recreation is perhaps the best method of building up physical fitness and it is this fitness that will undoubtedly win this war.
