The Current Issue.

Every New Zealander who recognises the insularity of this country, and the consequent dependence on the mercantile marine to further the colony's business, will read Mr. Bullens excellent article which appears in this issue. It will no doubt prove as interesting to-day as it will be important as a record in twenty years' time. A special word of thanks is due those who have so kindly supplied us with photographs and data whereby the compilation of the article has been made a matter of comparative ease. In order that the diversiform tastes of our readers should be cared for, we have maintained most of our usual departments, and feel confident that the issue generally will meet with a full measure of colonial approval.
