EXTRACT FROM VICTORIA POLICE GAZETTE.

Extract from Victoria Police Gazette , 3rd December, 1863. Stolen from the store of William Armstrong, Almeida Beef, Dunolly, about the 26th Nov., fire £5 notes, viz.: London Chartered Bank, No. 79179 Bank of Australasia, Nos. 4847, 5216, 353 and 5287; also twenty-five £l. notes. Suspicion, but no warrant, against two men only known respectively as Harry and om. Harry is a Londoner, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, slight build, about 10 stone weight, dark brown hair and whiskers, the latter worn all round, one or two front teeth wanting, and slovenly gait; wore grey jumper, moleskin trousers, and dirty felt hat. Tom is 50 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, 11 stone weight, black hair, bushy whiskers, swarthy complexion, and one front tooth wanting; wore grey shirt, moleskin trousers, and wideawake. They are supposed to have gone either to GippsLand or to Castleinaine, or to Melbourne for New Zealand.lst December, 1863.

Whereas Mary Burke, who has been missing since September, 1858, appears to have been murdered on or about the 9th of that month, at Woolert, near Epping, in the county ofßourke: And whereas an inquest has been held on her remains, and a verdict of wilful murder has been returned against Bartholomew' Burke, the husband of the said Mary Burke : Notice is hereby given that a reward of £IOO will be paid by the Government for such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the said Bartholomew Burke. A communication from the Superintendent of the Detective Police, Melbourne, has been received, that he has been informed on good authority that the above named Bartholomew Burke, alias Moore, is at present working in company with one John Bohen or Bohan in one of the New Zealand Gold Fields, or in the employ of some of the road contractors in the same districts, especially in that of any Connaught man. Officers in charge of districts will then use every exertion in their respective districts, and report the result. [Burke can be identified by Constable James Whelan, Dunedin.]
