PROPERTY STOLEN.

Auckland. September last, the property of HENRY INKSON, Valley Road, Henderson, a gentlemen’s silver hunting pocket watch, with “ From June to Harry, 29th April, 1938 on back; a 9 ct. gold watch-chain with very small links, small greenstone fish attached; and a brown fibre-cane attache-case containing six bottles of Tui stout; total value, £2 12s. 6d. Identifiable except attache-case and stout. Suspicion is attached to six Men (names unknown) who, at the rear of the City Hotel, assaulted Inkson and stole the property from him. One of the men first induced him to go to the rear of the hotel, and he describes this man as age about thirty, height about 5 ft. 6 in., medium build and complexion, thin features; wearing a dark overcoat, grey felt hat, and grey jersey with rolled collar. The other men cannot be described.

Auckland. October last, from the forecastle of the ship “ Beatus,” the property of ABDUL AMID, a gentlemen’s 9 ct. gold luminous wristlet-watch ; a gentlemen’s 18 ct. gold heavy signet ring; and a gentlemen’s Egyptian gold ring, claw-set with a red stone which is either oblong or diamond shaped; total value, £9 - ss. - Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Wadi Fadi, age thirty-four, height 5 ft. 4 in., seaman and fisherman, native of Cyprus, medium build, dark complexion, wavy black hair, brown eyes, good natural teeth. He has been interviewed, but no evidence resulted.

Auckland. Between the 28th ultimo and Ist instant, from a cabin on the ship “ Mariposa,” the property of the MAHARAJAH OF TRIPURA, India, a pair of 10 ct. gold earrings, set with blue-white diamonds about the size of a pea, and equipped with a small gold clasp, probably contained in a jewel-case; a gentlemen’s 10 ct. gold ring, set with a large blue-white diamond in claw-setting ; total value, £2,000. Identifiable.

Huntly. —Between the 21st and 23rd ultimo, the Postoffice at Huntly, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT, was broken into and the following stolen : Two order-books from A. A. Cor ban and Sons, 28 Fort Street, Auckland, Nos. 401-450 and 451-500; a cheque-book on the Bank of New Zealand, Huntly, No. 492313-492336 ; a deposit receipt-form addressed to “ Waikato Carbonisation Ltd., Post Box, Huntly ” ; and a black fountain-pen; total value, £1 3s. 6d. Identifiable.

Gisborne. Between July last and sth instant, from the dwelling of EDWARD MASSEY HUTCHINSON, 14 Cheeseman Road, a double-barrel breech-loading shot-gun, National Arms Co., Belgium, make, No. 28896; a -250 calibre (•250-3000) repeating rifle, made by Savage Arms Co., No. 313785; a -22 calibre Browning automatic rifle, No. 63850; and some fishing reels, lines, and flies; total value, £3O. Masterton. 2Bth ultimo, from a motor-car in Victoria Street, Wellington, the property of CHARLES SANDBEK, 73 South Road, a fibre suit-case, 20 in. by 15 in. by 5 in., containing a gentlemen’s dressing gown; a pair of grey trousers ; a grey sports coat; a pair of black leather slippers ; a set of pyjamas . a shaving-; a grey shirt with two collars (all clothing fit man 5 ft. 8 in.); and a cheque-book on the Bank of Australasia, Masterton, No. 19351 to 19380, containing unused forms, Nos. 19377 to 19380 ; total value, £9. Portion identifiable.

Wellington. —On the 6th ultimo, the factory of the BRADFORD TAILORING CO., 65 Dixon Street, was broken into and the.following stolen: £l9 in money; a cheque for £4 10s., drawn on the National Bank of New Zealand, Courtenay Place, Wellington, No. 19231, in favour of H. C. Fisk, and signed “ Bradford Tailoring Co.” ; a cheque for £l6 7s. Bd. from Carryers Ltd., Stratford, in favour of Bradford Tailoring Co.; a cheque for £8 13s. 3d. from A. E. McLeod, Napier, in favour of Bradford Co. a cheque for £7 10s. payable to H. C. Fisk; and a fawn sports coat, size 5 ; total value, £57. Identifiable except money. Suspicion is attached to Mitchell Lazarus, age twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 7 in., presser, native of New Zealand, medium build, sallow complexion, dark-brown hair, grey eyes, fairly large nose; smartly dressed. He has been interviewed by the Wellington police, but sufficient evidence to prefer the charge was not obtained. He has previously been suspected by the Dunedin and Christchurch police, and is regarded as a very cunning thief.

Greymouth. During the night of 7th instant, the office of the GREY ELECTRIC POWER BOARD, Mackay Street, was broken into, an attempt made to open the strongroom by means of explosives, and the following stolen: A white metal stop-watch, case No. 474678, thirty seconds dial, two sets of numerals, one set black and the other brown ; and three electric irons, two Westinghouse make and the other Proctor make ; total value, £7 7s. 6d.
