Registration of Aliens

The Government Statistician desires that the following points in regard to the registration of aliens should be noted by registration officers for their guidance ; 1. Naturalization papers taken out by an alien parent in New Zealand will cover his wife if living with him and any children who may be under age and also residing with him ; therefore a man who came to New Zealand with his parents, and whose father became naturalized in New Zealand while he (the sou) was living with him and before he came of age is a British subject, and is not required to register under the Act.

2. A wife takes the nationality of her husband, and an alien woman married to a British subject is not required to register. On the other hand, a woman born a British subject who is married to an unnaturalized alien is an alien and is required to register. 3. Every person New Zealand bom is a natural-born British subject and does not come within the scope of the Act, notwithstanding that his parents may have been aliens. 4. With regard to the registration of alien Chinese all such who are married according to Chinese law but whose wives are not living with them in New Zealand may be regarded as single, and the application filled up accordingly ; particulars in regard to the wife and children in China need not be given. This will probably facilitate the registration of alien Chinese.
