DESERTERS FROM HIS MAJESTY’S SERVICE.

Whangarei. —l7tb May last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, William Ritchie, age forty-five, height 5 ft. 9 in., fireman, native of Australia.

Queen Street Wharf (Auckland).— sth April, 1916, on military warrant for deserting from the 15th Reinforcement, Owen Lynch, age forty-one, height 5 ft. 8 in., seaman, native of England, medium build, dark-brown hair, brown eyes. Next-of-kin, Margaret Lynch (wife), Liverpool, England, and James Mort (friend), 10 Bow Lane, Dunedin.

Auckland.— l7th May last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, Charley Johnson, ago twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer and fireman, good build, fair hair and oomplexion, prominent nose.

Whitianga. —lßth January, 1916, on military warrant for deserting from the 12th Reinforcement, Rees Nicholson, age thirty-three, height 5 ft. Bin., dark hair and complexion, brown eyes, mole on left calf.

Rotorua. -- 16tb instant, on military warrant for failing to proceed to camp, William Herbert Hayden, age thirty-five, height 5 ft. 10 in., lineman, native of New Zealand, slight build, dark complexion, long dark hair, burn-scars on inside of right fingers; usually roughly dressed in a dark-grey suit and felt hat ; speaks quietly.

Ohakune. —7th instant, on military warrant for deserting from the 30th Reinforcement, Peter Henry Stearne, alias Tommy Atkins, age about thirty-two, height 6ft. Jin., bushman, strong build, fair complexion, light-brown hair, grey eyes, right little toe has been injured, holds his head slightly to one side ; usually dressed in a dark suit.

Raurimu.— 7th instant, on military warrant for deserting from 31st Reinforcement, Walter Poulton, age about thirty-seven, height 5 ft. 3 in., cook and labourer, native of England, medium build, brown hair, grey eyes, fair moustache, fiat feet; usually dressed in a brown suit, and felt or straw hat.

Taihapk. -—sth March last, on military warrant for deserting from the 26th Reinforcement, Alfred Martin Chaney, height 5 ft. 74 in., labourer, fair complexion, light-brown hair, blue eyes; coat-of-arms on right forearm, peacock and Indian’s head on left forearm, dagger on right leg, leg and hand on left leg.

Taihape. —l3th November, 1916, on military warrant for deserting from the 23rd Reinforcement, William George Marslen, age thirty-seven, height 5 ft. 1J in., cook, fair complexion, curly light-brown hair, hazel eyes. (See Police Gazette, 1917, page 602.)

Palmerston North.— l7th May last, on military warrant for failing to medical examination, Harry George Philpott, age* thirty-three, height 5 ft. 10 in., farmer, native of New Zealand, medium build.

Palmerston North. —l2th July last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, Robert Young, age forty, height 5 ft. 7 in., flax-cutter.

Palmerston North. —22nd August last, on military warrant for failing to proceed to camp, Edward Herbert Cole, age thirty, height 5 ft. 4|in., native of Australia, medium build, dark complexion, dark-brown hair, grey eyes.

Palmerston North. warrant for fading to parade for medical examination, Francis Walmsley, age thirty, height 5 ft. 9 in., hotel porter.

Shannon. —7th instant, on military warrant for deserting from Peatherston Gamp, Robert Scott, height 5 ft. 8 in., slaughterman and flax hand, slight build, fair complexion and hair, blue eyes, scar on left forearm.

Masterton. —17th May last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, John Munro, age about thirty-seven, height about 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of Australia, good build, dark hair and complexion, large nose which has been broken.

Masterton. —l7th May last, on military warrant for lading to parade for medioal examination, Stanley August, age twenty-two, height about 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, auburn hair, blue eyes.

Featherston.—2nd August last, on military warrant for deserting from Featherston Camp, Richard Patrick Hanrahan, age twenty-four, height 5 ft. 9 in., cabinetmaker, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, fair hair, grey eyes. (See Police Gazette, 1917, page 602.)

Wellington. —2Bth June last, on military warrant for deserting from the 30th Reinforcement, Henry James Wrixon, age twenty-three, height 5 ft. 5 in., coachbuilder, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair hair and complexion, blue eyes. Next-of-kin, Mrs. Hill (mother), 27 Wright Street, Wellington.

Wellington. —29th July last, on military warrant for deserting from the 30th Reinforcement, Walter Staff, age thirty, height 5 ft. 11 in., tailor, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair and eyes.

Wellington. —l7th May last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, Robert Spence, age thirty-two, height 5 ft. 11 in., labourer and ex-constable, native of Ireland, strong build, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes. (See Police Gazette, 1916, page 165.)

Wellington. —4th July last, from a New Zealand reinforcement at Albany, Western Australia, Francis James Walsh, age twenty-one, height 5 ft. 11J in., fireman, native of Scotland, slight build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair, blue-grey eyes, burn-scar inside left leg. Wellington. —4th July last, from a New Zealand reinforcement at Albany, Western Australia, Henry Slater, age twenty-four, height 5 ft. BJin., motor mechanic, native of America, medium build, dark complexion, dark-brown hair, brown eyes. Next-of-kin, Mrs. J. Slater (mother), 75 Glen Drive, Vancouver, Canada. (P. 15/699/39.)

Wellington. —l9th March last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, Alexander Willis Smith, age forty-one, height 5 ft. 4in., labourer and fireman, native of Scotland. He states that he served twelve years as a stoker in the Royal Navy. (P. 17/14.)

Wellington. —26th July last, on military warrant for deserting from the 30th Reinforcement, Walter William Davis, age thirty-one, height 5 ft. 9 in., hotel porter, medium build, freßh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes.

Mount Cook. — 12th July last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, Edward Lube, age forty-three, height sft. 7 in., labourer, native of Australia.

Mount Cook. —12th instant, on military warrant for escaping from military detention, William Stormont, age twenty, height 5 ft. 10 in., coachbuilder, native of England, slight build, dark complexion, brown hair and eyes; dressed in grey denims. Next-of-kin, Mrs. A. Stormont (mother), 14 Great North Road, Grey Lynn. He was last employed by Gilmer, Joel, and Williams, Auckland.

Mount Cook. —7th instant, on military warrant for escaping from military detention, Samuel Rosenbeck, age twenty-six, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer and soldier, native of Denmark or Germany, medium build, ruddy complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, small fair moustache, Roman nose (slightly twisted), left middle finger missing ; dressed in drab-coloured denims; moves his head when conversing. Next-of-kin, Mrs. Neil Rosenbeck, Piripiri, Dannevirke. He is identical with S. Rosenbeck, referred to in Police Gazette, 1917, page 656.

Mount Cook. —11th instant, on military warrant for escaping from military detention, Frederick Barnet, age thirty-five, height sft. 7Jin., labourer, native of England, medium build, dark-brown hair, brown eyes. Next-of-kin, Frederick Marjoram, Hobson Street, Auckland. He was last employed by Massey Bros., Auckland.

Mount Cook. —17th May last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, John Smith O’Brien, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 3 in. Accused left New Zealand on the 26th July last by the s.s. “ Ulimaroa ” as a baker.

Westport.-— sth April last, on military warrant for deserting from Trentham Camp, Charles Alexander Daniel Thomas, age thirty-nine, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, curly brown hair, brown eyes. Next-of-kin, Mrs. E. Thomas (wife), 12 Vincent Street, Auckland, and Mrs. K. Thomas, care of Mrs. Gaudin, Waripori Street, Wellington. (See Police Gazette, 1917, page 339.)

Westport.— lsth July last, on military warrant for deserting; from Trentham Camp, Patrick Joseph Carey, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 4 in., miner, native of New Zealand, medium complexion, brown hair, blue eyes. Next-o*-kin, Miss Mary Carey (sister), Russell Street, Westport. He is identical with P. J. Carey, referred to in Police Gazette, 1917, page 504.

Blackball. — 30th June last, on military warrant for deserting from the 28th Reinforcement, George Percival Moore, age twenty-two, height. 5 ft; 9§in., hairdresser, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes.

Blackball. --14th iustant, on military warrant for deserting from the 28th Reinforcement, James Stuart Hay, age twenty-one, height 5 ft. 11 in., grocer’s assistant, native of New Zealand, slim build, fresh complexion, brown hair and eyes. Next-of-kin, Mrs. J. Hay (mother), Blackball. He was last employed by Messrs. Armstrong and Haisty, Blackball. (See Police Gazette, 1917, page 671.)

Dunollie.— l9th ultimo, on military warrant for failing to proceed to camp, Michael Fitzgibbon, age about twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 10in., labourer and bushman, native of New Zealand, medium buiid, fresh complexion, dark hair, blue eyes; usually dressed in a dark-grey suit and soft-feit hat.

Grbymouth. —2lst September last, on military warrant, for deserting from the Expeditionary Force, George Hind, age thirty-four, height about 5 ft. 4 in., seaman and fireman, native of England, medium build, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, blue eyes. (See Police Gazette, 1917, page 488.)

Hokitika. —2nd instant, on military warrant for deserting from the 28th Reinforcement, Benedict Gam birazzi, age thirty, height 5 ft. 4jjr in., labourer, native of New Zealand, ruddy complexion, dark-brown hair, brown eyes, flat feet.

Christchurch. — 23rd July last, on military warrant for deserting from the 30th Reinforcement, 'Walter Thomas Buckingham, age thirty-six, height 5 ft, 8J in., labourer, strong build, fresh complexion, long wavy dark hair, grey eyes, broad face, flat nose, thick lips, tattoo-marks on arms and on left thigh. Next-of-kin, Mrs. Buckingham, 36 Horatio Street, Christchurch.

Christchurch. — 17th May last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, Patrick Kelly, age twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 11 in., labourer.

Timaru. —l2th instant, on military warrant for deserting from the 28th Reinforcement, William Joseph Lynch, age forty-one, height 5 ft. 2 in., shearer, medium build, dark complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, scar on forehead, flat feet; deaf in left ear ; suffers from varicocele. Roxburgh. —l3th April last, on military warrant for deserting from the 24th Reinforcement, William Armstrong, age thirty-nine, height 5 ft. 7Jin., farmer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, scar on left breast; quiet disposition. Next-of-kin, Mrs. Sarah Armstrong, Miller’s Flat, Otago. (See Police Gazette, 1917, page 354.)
