Circular No. 10/14.] Police Department, Wellington, 2nd November, 1914
Payment of Witnesses’ Expenses
With reference to Circular No. 13/00 of the 23rd May, 1900, relative to the payment of witnesses’ expenses in police prosecutions, it has been decided that in future moneys recovered through the Court on account of witnesses’ and other expenses incurred by the police shall be paid by the Clerk of Court to the Public Account for credit of this Department’s vote, instead of being handed over to the police and brought on charge in the Imprest Account. In cases where the Costs are paid into Court at once, the witnesses will be paid by the Clerk of Court, who will advise the police of the names of witnesses so paid, in order to avoid the possibility of a duplicate payment to the same witnesses being made by the police. (P. 14/1454.) J. Cullen,
J. Cullen, Commissioner of Police
