Pukekohe. —llth ultimo, from the farm of SAMUEL CADDY, a dark-bay hack gelding, aged, 15 hands high, star bn forehead, white hind foot, not shod ; value, £2O. Identifiable.
Woodville. —3rd or 4th ultimo, from a paddock, the property of F. M. ROGERS, butcher, a bay gelding springcart horse, about 15 hands 3 in. high, thick-set, black points, clipped underneath in the beginning of winter, still noticeable, tail docked rather short ; value, £3O. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to Harold Clifford, age twenty-two, height 5 ft. 10 in., native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, light-brown hair, thick lips, rather large mouth, suffers from chronic bronchitis, coughs frequently ; dressed in Bedford-cord pants and leggings, grey-tweed sac coat, and a new dark-tweed cap with green stripes. Woodville. —3rd or 4th ultimo, from the barn of HERBERT CLARKE, farmer, an- English saddle, lined with yellow cloth, rusty-iron stirrups, heavy rounddeatker girth, n6W white surcingle, and single-reined bridle with large rings; value, £5 10s. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to Harold Clifford. (See preceding paragraph and Police Gazette, 1905, pages 321 and 334.)
Marton. —25th ultimo, from the railway-station, the property of HENRY JACKSON SMITH, commercial traveller,. Lower Hutt, a brown Gladstone bag with silver maltose cross, “ H. J. S.” stamped on it; rug strapped on
bag, which contains a brown-tweed suit; five shirts, nine collars, and twelve handkerchiefs marked “H. Jackson Smith ” ; a pair of boots ; a pair of slippers; a clothes-brush ; a suit of pyjamas; a cheque-book on Bank of New Zealand, Hutt, one cheque in it for £2 signed H. Jackson Smith in favour of C. Pennell; also stolen a brown-leather letterbag with “W. J. Staples & Co., boot-manufacturer, Wellington,” stamped on steel plate : value, £2O. Identifiable.
Martinborough. —Between 18th and 20th ultimo, from the bedroom of JAMES WHITEHEAD, carpenter, Club Hotel, a gentlemen’s gold scarf-pin with heart-shaped shield, a horse-shoe and whip across the shield; value, £1 10s. Identifiable.
Masterton. — 23rd or 24th ultimo, from an outhouse at Mrs. Watson’s boardinghouse, the property of WALTER WILLIAM WICKER, shearer, agentlemen’s black enamelled Swift bicycle, No. 7402 undor saddle-post, reversible nickel handles, dent in right handle, right grip of wood painted white, left grip white bone, Brooks’s 810 saddle, reflex tires, “ Reynolds ” stamped on links of chain, Dunlop pump and tool-bag attached ; value, £ls. Identifiable.
Wellington. —l7th August last, from A. A. RYAN, agent, Ashburton, a gentlemen’s gold watch, No. 58856, a 15 ct. gold double chain, curb pattern, stamped 15 ct. on each link ; value, £4O. Identifiable. Complainant was drinking about the town, and the watch and chain are supposed to have been stolen from his pocket.
Wellington. —27th July last, from GEORGE MUIR, labourer, Ngahauranga. a gentlemen's silver Rotherham hunting-watch, No. 20289; value, £2. Supposed stolen from him when under the influence of liquor.
Wellington. —2sth ultimo, from the bedroom of ISABELLA HUNTLY, Terminus Hotel, a gentlemen’s gold keyless stop hunting-watch, glass cracked ; a gold graduated curb-chain, with pear-shaped nugget of gold attached, a piece about the size of a pea out of one side of the nugget: value, £3O. Suspicion attached to James Jackson (name supposed fiotitious), age about thirty, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer, slim build, brown hair and moustache; dressed in dark suit and hard black-felt hat. He occupied the room opposite complainant’s, and disappeared about the time the watch was stolen.
Ghristchurh. — 11th ultimo, from the entrance to Ballantyne and Co.’s shop, Cashel Street, the property of THOMAS A. BALLANTYNE, a dark-grey Chesterfield coat with white spots, a slit in skirt, two side and one ticket pocket, “J. Ballantyne” on inside of collar ; value, £5 ss. Identifiable.
Christchurch. —22nd ultimo, from the shop of HENRY WILKINSON, High Street, four pairs of gentlemen’s boxcalf balmorals, sizes 6 to 10, and a pair of gentlemen’s glacekid American welted boots, size 6, and four pair of boots (recovered) ; total value, £7 3s. 6d. The shop window was broken and the articles taken.
Sydenham. —2sth ultimo, from the dwelling of MARY ELLEN SHERLOCK, an 18 ct. gold ring with two small diamonds and three sapphires in claw setting, “ Whale Bros.” stamped on inside of ring, value £5 10s.; a gold-mounted greenstone bar brooch, three small pearls in centre, value 12s. 6d.; a greenstone bar-brooch, a ruby and ten pearls in centre, value £1; a double-bar 9 ct. gold brooch, open book in centre, “ Mizpah ”in raised letters on book, value 18s. 6d.; a gold curved bar brooch, set with a ruby, a sapphire, and two small gold flowers, value £1 ss. Identifiable. Breaking and entering.
Sumner. —16th ultimo, a hunting lever watch, value £1 10s., the property of HARRY WALLACE ; four sovereigns, a half-sovereign, 7s. 6d. in silver, and a large straw-coloured handkerchief with blue lines, total value £4 18s. 6d., the property of FRANK LEWIS. Breaking and entering
Sheffield.— 6th ultimo, from HUGH PASCOE, railway ganger, Springfield, a fox-terrier dog, eleven weeks old, liver spots on back and rump, liver coloured ears, a little black on nose, tail cut short, small for age; value, £l. Suspicion attached to two men, names unknown. Descriptions : First, age about twenty, height about sft. 6in., slight build; dressed in dark suit, black hard hat, elastic side boots. Second, age about eighteen, height about 5 ft. sin., ourly hair, medium build; dressed in greyish suit and grey oap.
Carried small swags; said to have changed their clothing at the Otira Hotel; look like jockey-boys. Left by train for Greymouth on 9th ultimo.
Ashburton. — 7th ultimo, from Burnett Street, the property of FARQUHAR MACDONALD, sheep-dealer, a gentlemen’s nearly new Triumph bicycle, No. 65660, freewheel, 24 in. frame, back and front brakes, clipper tires, 88 gear, straight handle-bars with green grips; value, £lB. Identifiable.
Dunedin.— Bth or 9th ultimo, from the store of RICHARD GAGE SISE, Bond Street, a brown imitation crocodile-skin brief-bag, containing a pair of gentlemen’s tan boots, size 7or 8, and a pair of roller-skates (value, £2); value, £8 10s. Identifiable.
Dunedin.— 3rd ultimo, from the dwelling of DANIEL YAT LEE, laundryman, Maclaggan Street, a cash-box containing £2 10s. in silver and coppers, consisting of sixpences, .threepenny pieces, and pennies. Breaking and entering.
King Street or 18th ultimo, from the yard of WILLIAM PATRICK, No. 8, Albany Street, a gentlemen’s Popular Matchless bicycle, No. 49773, old black frame, free-wheel, rat-trap pedals, cable brake, left grip missing, strip on back tire, new red rubber on brake; value, £5. Identifiable.
Owaka.— 22nd or 23rd ultimo, from the bedroom of HENRY SWALLOW, traveller, Owaka Hotel, a No. 1 Altoa razor, name on it in gold letters, “ Swallow ” printed od -case, value 7s. 6d; two pairs blue or green marl socks, value 3s. Identifiable.
Gore.— 2sth or 26th July, 1904, from PETER McLEOD, eighty sheep; value, £7O. (See Police Gazette, 1904, page 230.) The sheep are now believed to have been stolen by John McKinna, and sold to butchers immediately after the theft. He committed suicide on the 4th ultimo when requested by the police to account for his dealings in sheep.
Gore.— Between Ist June and 26th July, 1904, from ANNIE REID DODDS, fifty-eight sheep ; value, £7O. (See Police Gazette, 1904, page 230.) The sheep are now believed to have been stolen by John McKinna. (See preceding paragraph.)
