Horse and Cattle Stealing.

Pukekohe.— Charles Lapwood, farmer, Tuakau, reports stolen, about the 6th instant, a bay mare, aged, hands

high, shod all round, quiet, in good condition, large teats, very clean legs, collar-marks on shoulders, value £6; a black mare, aged, 14 hands high, branded TM on shoulder, value £5. Identifiable.

Gisborne.— John Dawson is charged on warrant with theft, on the 23rd ultimo, of a horse (recovered), the proherty of Barker Bros., sheep-farmers ; value, £lO. Offender is a native of New Zealand, about thirty years of age, 5 ft. 7 in. high, round face, fair complexion, fair moustache only, horsey appearance, well known about Auckland, where he followed the occupation of a jockey. Is supposed identical with John Dawson (see Police Gazette, 1898, page 116). He sold the horse for £3 10s., and left for Auckland by the s.s. “ Talune ” on the 24th ultimo.

Rongotea.— James Anderson is charged on warrant with theft, on the Ist instant, of a bay mare with black points, five years old, branded O on near shoulder, also an old saddle and bridle, the property of Thomas Watson (recovered) ; value, £l4. Description : About thirty years of age, a foreigner, 5 ft. 7in high, medium build, pale sallow complexion, clean-shaved except dark moustache ; dressed in dark coat, grey trousers, grey-tweed cap ; had a silver watch-chain.

A bay mare, eleven years old, 17 hands high, light build, three white legs, blaze on face, scar on near fetlock, goes in harness, very fast; value, £25. A chestnut gelding eight years old, 16 hands high, blaze on face, one white hind fetlock; value, £25. A bay harness-mare, eleven years old, hands high, thick set, a little white on off fetlock, EB on near shoulder; value, £l4. A bay hack, ten years old, hands high, scars on both knees; value, £7. Identifiable.
