Auckland. —George Norman, alias Charles Johnston, is charged on warrant with having, at Whangarei, on the 25th January, 1895, forged and uttered to Samuel Calkin, a cheque for £2, drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Bussell, and purporting to be signed by William Woods, but which has been declared a forgery. Offender is a native of Sydney, fifty-three years of age, 6ft. ljin. high, medium build, sallow complexion, brown hair beard whiskers and moustache, very light tinge of grey through beard, blue eyes, straight nose ; dressed in a blue-serge suit, and soft black-felt hat with large brim. (For previous conviction see Neiu South Wales Police Gazette , 1894, page 253.) He was at Onehunga on the 16th ultimo, and may have gone to the Waikato District.

Auckland. Ralph Harris is charged on warrant of commitment for one month’s labour in default of paying £1 95., balance of fine and costs for assaulting his wife. Description: English, a labourer, forty years of age, sft. 6Jin. high, medium build, fresh complexion, dark hair, blue eyes.

Auckland. —Mahomed Alii, charged with false pretences on Deeder Bux, has been arrested by Chief Detective M. Grace, Auckland police, nnd discharged.

Onehunga. —Henry Moffit is charged on warrant of commitment for seven days’ imprisonment in default of paying £2 10s., fine and costs, for assaulting John Weston. Offender is English, single, a labourer, thirty-two years of age,

sft. Bin. high, medium build, thin features, dark eyes, medium nose, dark complexion, dark-brown hair, small dark beard and moustache ; dressed, when last seen, in a dark-grey tweed coat, brown moleskin trousers, and soft black-felt hat. Supposed to have gone to one of the gumfields, or may endeavour to leave the colony.

Wellington. —Richard Jackson is charged on warrant of arrest with having, about the 20th September, 1893, illegally pawned a watch. Description: A half-caste Victorian or African, a labourer, between thirty and forty years of age, about sft. 9in. high, thick lips; dressed, when last seen, in old tweed clothes, .and soft-felt hat with a wide rim. Offender was served with a summons at Eketahuna on the 20th December last, and was to have appeared on the Bth January following. He, however, left Eketahuna on the latter date, and was traced to Woodville, where he disappeared. Complainant, Edward Scott, Dock Street, Wellington.

Dunedin. —C. Frost is charged on warrant with having, on the 11th ultimo, assaulted George Alfred Sparks, second officer of the s.s. “Te Anau.” Offender, a sailor, recently discharged from the vessel, is about thirty-five years of age, sft. llin. high, medium build, very broad shoulders, dark hair complexion and small moustache, sharp features; Yankee accent; dressed in a grey suit, and hard black-felt hat. (See Police Gazette , 1895, page 28.) Invercargill. —John Hampton, charged with the theft of William Fowler’s £lO note, has been arrested by Constable J. A. Ferguson, Gore police. Remanded to Invercargill, and committed for trial.

Melbourne. Brydges Colliver is charged on warrant with the larceny as a servant, on the 16th October, 1894, of £27 55., money of Messrs. Cuthbert, Hamilton, Wynne, and Co., 421, Collins Street. Offender is English, a law-clerk, about thirty-four years of age, sft. lOin. high, slim build and erect, dark sallow complexion, black moustache only, small eyes, short sighted, speaks carefully and slowly, rather sauntering walk ; generally wears a grey to buff short overcoat, and light sac-suit; gentlemanly appearance. Was employed as accountant by the firm. Arrest desirable.
