Stealing Otherwise than from the Person or from Dwellings.
Auckland. —Ralph Douglas James is charged on warrant, issued by J. Shepherd, Esq., J.P., Port Albert, with the larceny, at Tamarata gumfield, on the 11th February last, of a coloured blanket, a white cup, plate, spoon, knife, and fork ; and about lcwt. of kauri-gum ; total value, £2; the property of his father, Ralph George James, Wellsford. Offender is a boy about fifteen years of age, about sft. 3in. high, strong build, fair freckled complexion, brown hair, grey eyes. He is probably on one of the neighbouring gumfields. It is believed that the warrant was obtained with the view of getting the boy back to work.
Auckland. —McCarthy and Co. report stolen from their factory, Grey Street, on the 24th ultimo, eight men’s tweed overcoats with capes attached, sizes §, f, f, “ Moa manufacture ” on tabs ; value £B.
Otahuiiu. William Joseph Rayner, warehouseman at McArthur’s, Auckland, reports stolen from a stable at Otahuhu, on the 14th or 15th ultimo, a gents’ pigskin saddle, about 121 b. weight, serge lining, no knee- or thigh-pads, leather girth, nickel-silver stirrup-irons; and a double-reined bridle, with nickel-silver bit and square buckles ; value, £4 10s.
Rotorua. —The Railway Commissioners report stolen from the line, near Tarukenga Station, during the night of the 14th. ultimo, an adze, branded N.Z.R.; and a pick branded TV ; value, 13s.
Waitotara. Matthew Thomas Hawkinson, Momohaki Valley, reports stolen from his woolshed, on the 31st March last or Ist ultimo, five pairs of Daubney boots, size 10 ; eight pairs men’s sewn lace-up boots, sizes not known ; 35 yards of unbleached calico ; and 25 yards of white flannelette ; value, £ll 17s. 6d.

“ Manawatu,” s.s., Wanganui. —The Union Steamship Company report stolen on the 12th ultimo a pair of mediumsized opera-glasses, “ s.s. Manawatu ” engraved on the brass slide inside ; value, £4.
Palmerston North. Nellie Cowper, Taonui Street, reports stolen from the railway-station, on the 27th March last, a brown Gladstone bag, labelled “Mrs. T. Bell, Spit,” containing three brooches —viz., one gold, oval-shaped, pebbles in centre; one greenstone, with gold band and buckles ;
and one half-moon pattern, set with four pearls and a diamond-like stone in centre—a navy-blue dress, white front, trimmed with black silk; two black cashmere dresses, a dressing-gown, pair of lady’s shoes, underclothing, nine handkerchiefs, and a hand-made woollen shawl; value, ,£2l 6s. 6d.
“ Pahautanui. —Mrs. A. Mexted, Upper Takapu, reports stolen from a trap on the Porirua Road, on the 12th ultimo, a grey- and red-check rug, 6ft. by 4ft., top and bottom edges fringed ; value, £l. ?
Christchurch. Jonathan Bowker, coach proprietor, Richmond, reports stolen from his coach, on the 11th ultimo, a plain brass bugle, oval shape, two turns, a few dents in it, plain mouthpiece, a maker’s name and “ London” engraved thereon; value, 15s.
Lincoln (Canterbury). — Robert Gibson, jun., reports stolen from an outhouse, between the 18th and 20th ultimo, a double-barrelled muzzle-loading gun, heavy make, rusty, left hammer defective, wooden ramrod, broken at end; value, £2.
Waikouaiti. —William Alderdice, licensee, Golden Fleece Hotel, reports stolen from the passage, on the Ist ultimo, a brown-check tweed sac-coat, red tick through material, black lining, two side, one upper, and one inside pockets, almost new; value, £2 10s. Suspicion attached to Richard Hodgetts, alias Thomas Fletcher, who is charged on warrant with stealing Elias Henry Nankeville’s horse, saddle, &c.
