(See Police Gazette, 1883, pages 66, 76, and 149; and 1884, page 9.) Charles S. McGregor, charged on warrant with the larceny as a bailee of £BO, the property of Job Coulam, has been arrested by Constable Henry Johnston, Christchurch Police, and remanded to Invercargill.

Victor Alfred Mordency or Mordeney, charged on warrant with stealing a saddle and bridle at Blenheim, the property of Robert Phillips, has been arrested by Constable Charles Knapp, Spring Grove Police, and sentenced to three months’ labour.

Walter Smith is charged, on warrant issued by the Waiau Bench, with the larceny as a bailee, about November, 1882, at Hanmer Plains, Amuri, of a silver lever watch ; value £9 ; since recovered; the property of Mary McLean Hill. Description : Scotch, a watchmaker, about twenty-six years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, slight build, fair complexion, regular features, brown hair, clean shaved except moustache; generally wears light-tweed suit; smart active appearance; fond of drink. He left Kaikoura on the 11th ultimo with the intention of going to Lyttelton to ship as a steward. He has a sister living in Nelson.

John Lee, alias Alabama Jack, is charged, on warrant issued by the Napier Bench, with stealing on the 21st or 22nd ultimo, from the Taradalo Hotel yard, Taradale, a black-and-tan collie dog; value £lO ; since recovered; the property of Robert McLeod. Description: Irish, a sailor, about thirty-eight years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, stout build, thin features, sandy complexion, reddish beard and whiskers; wore dark-tweed suit, dark-felt hat, and blucher boots; carried a small bundle tied in a handkerchief. He had recently been employed harvesting at Hastings. He sold the dog to a Maori at Pakapaka on the 22nd ultimo. It is supposed he went in the direction of Waipawa, and may come to Wellington.

Stealing a saddle, the property of Albert Domwell: The saddle was sold on the 10th ultimo to Henry Stone, dealer, King Street, Dunedin, by a man who gave his name as Robert Grant. Description: Between thirty and thirty-five years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, slight build, fair hair and complexion, very little hair on face; wore dark clothes ; looked like a dealer. Identifiable.

Stolen between 7.30 p.m. on the 18th and 5 a.m. on the 19th ultimo, from off an excavation in Rattray Street, Dunedin, a large round American globe lamp, with protecting wires round outside, wire handle, Corporation stamp on bottom ; the property of the Dunedin City Council; value 10s. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 19th or 20th ultimo, from the premises of Charles Bowker, Otipua Road, near Timaru, two hams, a side of bacon, two towels, and some potatoes ; value £2. Towels identifiable.

Stolen on the 19th ultimo, from off a horse at Wairengaahika, Poverty Bay, a nearly-new saddle, deep scratches on near side of seat and pommel, new stirrup-leathers, one stirrup-iron bright the other rusty, and an old snaffle-bridle, very wide reins, one of them broken near bit; the property of Samuel Heath; value £5. Identifiable. Ngatiporou Maoris suspected.

Stolen between the 11th and 14th ultimo, supposed on board the steamer “Te Anau,” between Wellington and Gisborne, two pairs of plain Kaiapoi socks, engrained colours, either blue, brown, or scarlet, two pairs of ribbed socks, two pairs of white-serge drawers, a pair of Shetland drawers; five men’s flannel undershirts, one braided at breast with either blue or scarlet worsted; and youths’ trousers and vest, size 2, grey tweed mixture with crimson and yellow stripe through material; the property of M. M. McCaul, traveller for the Kaiapoi Woollen Factory; value £B. Identification doubtful.

Stolen on the 12th ultimo, from off a horse at Makaraka, Poverty Bay, a colonial hogskin saddle, only a few days in use, two or three dark spots on near side of seat, mediumsized pads, small old stirrup-leathers, and two white web girths ; the property of Alexander Wyllie; value £7. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 22nd or 23rd ultimo, from the clothes-line of Robert Patterson, North-East Valley, Dunedin, two plain night-dresses, a twill sheet, three babies’ long embroidered dresses, a child’s night-dress, a pillow-case, frilled ; five white shirts, two of them marked JSP with ink on breastband; a toilet-cover, three pillow-cases, two holland pinafores, twelve napkins, and a babies’ flannel jacket; value, £3 19s. Identifiable.

Stolen between the 31st October last and the 3rd ultimo, from a goods case on board the steamer “ British King,” between London and Wellington, or on board the steamer “ Hawea,” between Wellington and Dunedin, a new clarionet, “ Boosey and Co., London, 6393,” stamped in gilt letters on every joint, the property of Henry Crust; value £8 13s. 6d. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 27th ultimo, from the clothes-line of Ah Chow, Yankee Gully, Waikaia, a nearly-new blue-flannel shirt, a nearly-new white-flannel shirt, and a white pockethandkerchief ; value 13s.

Stolen on the 26th ultimo, from a stable at Wyndham, a silver lever hunting - watch, maker Rotherham, London, No. 20641, case worn very smooth, gold hands, second hand broken, value £7 ; a steel guard, long thick oval links, value 55.; the property of Peter Duncan. Identifiable.

Stolen between the 11th and 16th ultimo, from the wreck of the steamer “ Kakanui,” at Bluff Harbour, four pairs of winged compasses, 26£ lb. of hemp head-line, six bottles of sewing-machine oil, five hand-whisks, and nine wrenches (Cox’s), the property of James Manson and Co.; value £3 12s. Bd.

Stolen during the night of the 24th ultimo, from a shed in Ribble Street, Oamaru, a colonial-made saddle, with crupper, plain knee-pads, leather girth, galvanized stirrup-irons round at bottom, a stain on one of stirrup-leathers near bottom, a single-rein bridle with snaffle-bit, and a martingale, all nearly new, the property of Stuart Richmond ; value £4 15s. Identifiable.

Stolen on the morning of the 17th ultimo, from off the shop-windows of Messrs. Siegert and Fauvel, at Temuka, two hessian window-blinds, 10 by 6 feet, ten brass rings on each ; value £1 ss. Identifiable.

Stolen during the night of the 24th ultimo, from the clothes-line of John McNeill, at Woodhaugh, near Dunedin, four twill sheets, three linen table-cloths, four pillow-cases, three white shirts, two coloured shifts, eight collars, six handkerchiefs, and a bath-towel; value £3. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 19th ultimo, at the Public Baths, Customhouse Street, Auckland, an old hogskin purse, containing £1 ss. in silver; the property of Charles Willox. Purse identifiable.
