Deserters from Merchant Vessels.
Charles Cummings, William Cunningham, and Alexander Bunch are charged, on warrants issued by the Timaru Bench, with deserting from the barque “Portland,” at Timaru, on the 11th instant. Description : Cummings is Irish, twenty-one years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, rather stout build, fair complexion, brown hair, no hair on face. Cunningham is Irish, forty-five years of age, brown hair turning grey, no hair on face except brown moustache, pockpitted ; wore brown corduroy suit. Bunch is English, twenty-five years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, medium build, brown hair, clean-shaved ; wore brown guernsey, dark trousers, and soft black-felt hat.
John Christian is charged with deserting from the barque “ Clyde,” at Bluff Harbour, on the 13th instant. Description : A G-erman, an able seaman, about twenty-eight years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, stout build, sallow complexion, dark hair, and small dark moustache, no beard or whiskers ; wore blue-dungaree jumper, g ey-tweed trousers, and cloth cap. He is supposed to have gone to Stewart Island in the cutter “ Rosa.”
