Deserting Wives and Families, &c.

The warrant issued by the Waimate Bench for the arrest of Henry William Dutton, for deserting his wife, has been cancelled.

The warrant of commitment to gaol issued against John Quinn, in default of paying £1 fine and 6s. 6d. costs for being drunk and disorderly at Black’s, has been cancelled.
William Peneold is charged, on warrant issued by the Dunedin Bench, with disobeying an order to provide for the maintenance of his wife at Kensington, near Dunedin, since the Ist April last. Description: English, a blacksmith, thirty years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, stout build, fresh complexion, fair hair, and very red moustache, no whiskers. On the 9th instant he was £ls 15s. in arrear. He is supposed to be employed in or near Invercargill.
William Duff is charged, on warrant issued by the Timaru Bench, with deserting his wife at Washdyke since the 28th ultimo. Description : Scotch, a stock-rider and labourer, thirtytwo years of age, about 6 feet high, stout build, brown hair, beard, whiskers, and moustache; wore grey-tweed coat and vest, brown-moleskin trousers, and soft black-felt hat; fond of drink. He was formerly a coach-driver at Dunedin, and is well known by the police there. He left Timaru on the 30th ultimo by rail for the South.
Thomas Lacy is charged, on warrant issued by the Picton Bench, with deserting his wife at Picton since the 14th instant. Description: A native of Australia, a labourer and bushman, thirty-one years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, medium build, thin features, sandy hair and whiskers, top off middle finger of right hand. He went to Wellington, supposed with the intention of going to Australia by the steamer “ Arawata.”

Richard Climo, charged on warrant with deserting his wife and family at West Taratahi, is supposed to be employed at or near Nelson, or at or near one of the ports at which the steamer “ Grafton ” called on her last trip from the West Coast to Wellington. Mrs. Spargo, who was supposed to be cohabiting with Climo, arrived at Wellington on the 17th [instant by the steamer “ Grafton.”
Edward Crossweller is charged, on warrant issued by the Wellington Bench, with deserting his wife at Wellington since the Ist instant. Description : English, a painter, thirty-six years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, medium build, fresh
complexion, brown hair, whiskers, and moustache ; wore blackcloth coat, light-tweed trousers and vest, and black-felt hat. He left Wellington on the Ist instant by the steamer “Tui” for New Plymouth. He may assume the name of Cross.
Charles Jones is charged on warrant of commitment, for want of distress, issued by the Auckland Bench, in default of paying £1 fine and £1 19s. costs, for a breach of the Municipal Corporation Act, by removing a water-meter, at Auckland, without giving the necessary notice. Description: About forty years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout build, fair complexion, fair hair, whiskers, and moustache.
John Harrison is charged, on warrant issued by the Auckland Bench, with disobeying an order, since the 7th instant, to pay 10s. per week towards the maintenance of his wife. Description : English, a seaman, forty-eight years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, medium build, fresh complexion, grey eyes, lightbrown hair, beard, whiskers, and moustache. He left Auckland on the 4th instant by the steamer “ Southern Cross ” for Fiji.
