The sum of £3 has been awarded from the Beward Fund to Constable Michael Leahy, Christchurch Police, in recognition of his vigilance in the arrest of Richard Wood, sentenced at the last sittings of the Supreme Court at Christchurch to two years’ labour for breaking into a warehouse and stealing a large quantity of drapery therefrom.

The sum of £lO lias been awarded from the Reward Fund to Detective Martin Grace, Napier Police, in recognition of the exemplary tact, energy, and perseverance displayed by him in the arrest and prosecution of William Henry Shaw and John Boyd, alias Hutton, sentenced at the last sittings of the Supreme Court at Napier, the former to four years’ penal servitude for arson and three years’ penal servitude for embezzlement, and the latter to fifteen years’ penal servitude ou three charges of attempting to upset a railway train.

The sum of £2 has been awarded to Sergeant Henry Martin, Auckland Police, in recognition of his services in the prosecusecution of eight seamen, five of whom were sentenced to twelve months’ labour each, for embezzling cargo of the ship “Chile,” and ordered to pay £54 14s. for damage.

The police stations at the following places will be closed from the Ist proximo, namely, Upper Hutt, in the Wellington District; Danevirk, Ormond, and Waipukurau, in the Hawke’s Bay District; Alexandra, Panmure, and Whatawhata, in the Auckland District; Shortland, in the Thames District; Manutalii, in the Taranaki District; Turakina, in the Wanganui District; Spring Grove, in the Nelson District; Head of the Bay, Governor’s Bay, Pleasant Point, and Waitaki, in the Canterbury District; and Greenstone, iu the Grey District.
