Deserters from Merchant Vessels.
(See Police Gazette, 1878, page 4.) The warrant issued by the Lyttelton Bench for the arrest of Alexander Carlo, Louis Macceri, Augusto Busnuier, and George Biven, charged with having deserted from the barque “ St. Argnan,” at Lyttelton, has been cancelled.
John Bernar, Henry Walters, David Watson, Henry Podasto, and John Stuart, seamen, are charged with having, on the 15th instant, deserted from the ship “ Dallam Tower,” at Port Chalmers. Description : Bernar is Irish, thirty years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, stout build, dark complexion
dark hair, whiskers, and moustache. Walters is English, twenty-one years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, slender build, fair complexion, no hair on face. Watson is English, twenty-one years of age, 5 feet 7-s or 8 inches high, fair hair, no whiskers, small fair moustache. Podasto is English, twenty-two years of age, dark complexion, black hair, no whiskers, small black moustache. Stuart is English, twenty-four years, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion, fair whiskers and moustache. The captain, Thomas Davies, offers a reward of £2 each for their arrest.
George Clark and Otto Ilolson, seamen, are charged with having, on the I7tb instant, deserted from the ship “ Dallam Tower,” at Port Chalmers. Description: Clark is English, twenty years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, medium build, sallow complexion, light-brown hair, beardless. Ilolson is a German, twenty-five years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, stout build, fair complexion, sandy hair, small fair whiskers and moustache The captain, Thomas Davies, offers a reward of £2 for the arrest of each.
