AUCKLAND RACING CLUB’S AUTUMN MEETING.

SATISFACTORY ACCEPTANCES. As will be noticed from the list of acceptances received by the secretary of the Auckland Racing Club for the Easter Handicap, Brighton Hurdles and Autumn Steeplechase, which appear in another column, the A.R.C. must be well satisfied with the response from owners, and the handicapper (Mr. Geo. Morse) should also be content. After the first payment 22 horses remain in the Easter, with the four-year-old Master Soult at the head of the list with 9.3, or exactly the same weight as he carried into second place behind Aborigine last year. However, it does not appear as though we shall see this fine horse at his best, and he may be amongst the missing on Saturday week. Equitas comes next, but she also claims an engagement at Riccarton, and her prospects can be considered when it is known whether she will be at Ellerslie or not. Salute (8.5) is favourite, and on her showing at the Cup meeting she appears to be extremely well treated. There is no reason why Salute should not run out a mile with Only 8.5 after the way she ran out six furlongs in the Newmarket Handicap, beating Armlet and Co. Lady Medallist is the only representative of the Porirua stable, and with 8.0 appears to be let in a bit light. She is very consistent, and this counts with backers. Merrivonia and Uranium are on the same mark as Lady Medallist, and will have to hurry to beat the St. Alwynne filly. Advocate and Maheno are generally slow to begin, but Waiari (7.13) should run well. Ngapuka, on the same mark, has not done anything for some time, but Wauchope, with 7.11, is sure to be one of the front division. Then we have Maori King with 7.11, and, landed at the post fit and well, the son of Merriwee would probably go out favourite. Tamainupo, with a similar poundage, was third last year, when a sheet would have covered the placed horses, and he is not harshly treated, although his displays of late have not been very good. Santa Rosa (7.9) is always a slow beginner, and but for this would win a lot of races. There does not appear to be anything lower down which reads like a winner of the Easter Handicap, but there may be a Mobility amongst the lightweights. Sixteen have accepted for the Brighton Hurdles, with Shrapnei (11.4) at the top of the list. He has been a great disappointment since coming to Auckland, but is going well on the tracks at present, and looks like showing up better. Waione won a double at Woodville, and from all

accounts can be regarded as a sure starter. Lady Patricia is getting through her tasks in good style on the track, and everything points to her going out favourite. Leo is a consistent performer, and can always be relied upon to run a good race, while Prophet, in at the minimum, reads well.
