STRATFORD.

February 23. Croquet. What threatened to be a miserably wet day last Thursday, cleared up sufficiently to allow the croquet match between Inglewood and local players to be played, and a very enjoyable afternoon was spent on the courts. The

play was interesting to watch, Stratford scoring a victory by 137 games to 99. The visitors included Mesdames llammerton, Jacomb, Howarth, Roberts, and Winfield. The .Stratford players were Mesdames Munro, Dingle, Hobbe, King, and Miss Dingle. Flower Show. The Horticultural .Society's annual Summer Show, held at the Town Hall on Thursday and Friday, was in every way a success. The deeorated tables, of which there were a great many, created much interest. The first prize was won by Miss Reader, and the second by Mrs. James. The mantelpieces were also most artistic, iMrs. Hobbs and Miss Dingle winning first and second prizes, respectively. The children’s exhibits were especially good. Among the visitors, I noticed: Mrs. Stevens, wearing blue cloth eoat and skirt, large black and white hat; Mrs. Menzies, grey and navy blue coat and skirt, white hat with the latest mode in wool fruit; Mrs. Munro, fawn coat, with large collar of black and white, silk hat en suite; Mrs. Wake, grey tailormade, hat to match with green osprey and handsome ca.bachon; Mrs. Uniaeke, smart blaek and white striped coat anj skirt, hat with saxe blue velvet and flowers; Mrs. Crawshaw, blue coat and skirt, blue and fawn straw hat; Mrs. Stubbs, black and white shepherd’s plaid, with black silk scarf, large blaek hat with cerise roses; Miss Wake, blue coat and skirt, large black hat with pink roses; Miss Joyce Monro, blue costume with touches of ■black velvet, becoming large black hat; Miss Curtis, brown coat and skirt, cream hat.
