November 10. At the Races. The Taumaninui races were held on the 3th inst, and, although in the early morning rain fell quite heavily, towards ten o'clock the sun came out beautifully, and a large number of spectators attended. Among the ladies I noticed Mrs Thompson, dark blue mercerised linen, burst straw hat trimmed with crimson roses; Mrs F. Fanthorpe, terracotta pink linen costume trimmed with black russa braid, black hat with ospreys; Mrs Thwaites, black skirt, dark blue silk blouse, black hat; Mrs Sarah, navy blue tailor-made, brown hat; Miss Lloyd, white linen dress, black hat; Mrs Rollestan, white linen costume, black chip hat; Mrs Gavin, green cloth costume; Mrs Geodsir, blue cloth costume, white blouse, white hat; Mrs Beeehe, green check costume, green straw hat; Mrs Shailer, blue tailormade, black hat; Mrs Hume,*nattier blue costume, blue Paisley hat; Miss Fleming, white dress, large white hat; Miss Laird, heliotrope floral muslin; Miss Carrington, cream silk striped voile, cream hat; Miss Bisset, violet silk dress, pretty cream hat; Miss Waekrow looked nice in a green costume, burnt straw hat; Miss E. Wackrow was also in a green doth costume; Miss Mooney, black silk; Miss E. Fanthorpe looked pretty in a sky bine linen costume and cream silk flop hat; Miss Maud Fanthorpe, white, prettily trimmed, and white silk lace hat; Airs Wood, black silk skirt, tussore coat; Miss Somers, white, and many others.

Bridge Party. Last week Mi- and Mrs Shailer held a bridge party at their residence, which was very enjoyable. There were four tables. A very dainty supper was laid in the diningroom, the table being prettily arranged with flowers, etc. Mrs Shailer received in a becoming gown of shell pink mousselne de soie; Mrs. Hume black and white; Mrs Cowper, terra cotta; Mrs Broad, black crepe de chine; Airs Greig, black silk; 'Mrs O’Conner, sea green floral muslin; Miss Harper, creme silk; Miss Hill, pale blue silk; Miss Broad, nattier blue silk; Miss Cooney, white silk; Miss White, white; Miss Munro, nil blue floral, relieved blue vel-. vet; Messrs Shailer, Cowper, Hadden, Milner. During the evening songs were sweetly rendered by Miss Harper, Miss Munro, and Mr Milner. Personal. Mrs Thorne is leaving shortly fol Christchurch for a holiday. Miss Coutts, of the Thames, is spending a few days with Mr and Mrs Thorne. Mrs Kenderdine and Mrs Reed have gone away for a holiday, Mrs. H. Castleton has returned after a few weeks’ holiday. Mrs W. G. Cake is leaving for a holiday to the Waikato. Mrs Beeehe leaves on Wednesday for New Plymouth, for a holiday, to stay with her mother.
