November 12. Tennis. The annual meeting of the Tennis Club was held last Saturday evening, when the election of officers for the ensuing season took place. The following officers were elected: —President, Mr L. Birks; vice-presidents, Drs. Wohlmann, Bertram, and Crooke; treasurer, Mr J. Cherry; secretaries, Messrs Algie and Bayfield; committee, Mrs Flower, Misses Corlett. Empson. and Hawksworth, Messrs Empson, Hawkins, and Melville. The Rowing Season. On November 3th the Rotorua Rowing Club held their "Opening Day,” and were favoured with most perfect weather. Quite a number of people were present at the esplanade, and a delicious afternoon tea was provided. An Enjoyable Evening. Mr and Mrs Lawrence Birks entertained the officers (and their wives) of the Tourist Department at their residence on Pukeroa Hill on Monday evening, when the guests -were invited to meet Mr Ben Wilson, Director of the Tourist Department. A delightful evening was spent with music, recitations, and competitions. Literary and Debating Society. The Rotorua Literary and Debating Society held a "mock banquet” in the Parish Hall on Thursday, the 10th, to finish the club's season. The President (Mr Birks) held the chair, and the officers for the next winters’ debates were elected before lighter things were indulged in. The business occupied a good deal of time, and at its conclusion the banquet proceeded. Toasts were proposed and honoured, and many of the speeches were amusing and humorous. Members and visitors alike spent a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Miss Stella Empson and Mr Hawley contributed songs. The accompaniments were played by Miss Empson. Amongst those present were: Mr Birks (president), and Mrs Birks, Mr and Mrs Bent, Mrs and Miss Malfroy, Mr and Mrs Blow, Mr and Mrs Hill, Rev. Thos. Scott, Mrs Moorhouse and Miss Greville (Wellington), Mrs and Miss Crowhurst, Mr and Mrs Glanville Hicks, Mr and Mrs Dyson, Mrs Snodgrass. Mrs T. Walker, M'r and Mrs Grove, Mrs Robertson, senr.. Mrs T. Robertson, Mr and Mrs Worthington, the Misses London, the Misses Murray, and many others. Personal. Mr and Mrs Hole, of Wanganui, are here. Bishop Averill is the guest of the Rev. F. Bennett during his short visit to Rotorua. Mrs Stanley Empson, of Te Awamutu, is visiting her husband’s relatives here. Mrs Hudson and Mrs Leslie Murray, of Auckland, are in Rotorua. Mrs T. Raymond, of Remuera, is here. Miss Pearl Gorrie, of Auckland, has been visiting Rotorua. Mr and Mrs A. L. D. Fraser, of Hastings, are here. Mr A. Young and Miss E. Young, of Parnell, arc staying at Waiwera House. Mr Ben. Wilson, of the Tourist Department, paid Rotorua a flying visit last week. Judge. Rawson, of the Native Land Court, is in Rotorua. Mrs and Miss Macdonald, of Devon - port, arc still in Rotorua. The Misses Gibbons, of Kopu, who
