October 28. Afternoon Tea. On Thursday afternoon last Mrs. Claude Wilson gave a most enjoyable afternoon to some of the members of the G.FJ?., amt it took the form of a Liberty pin-cushion sewing bee, in aid of a bazaar which is to be held shortly in St. Mary's Schoolroom. Amongst the busy workers were:-—Mrs. Home, black coat and skirt, hat finished with feathers; Mrs. Bewley, grey costume, black toque; Mrs. Paton, grey coat and skirt, Mack hat; Mrs. Martin, tweed costume, hat en suite; Miss Abler, dove grey costume, hat finished with blaek velvet bows; Miss Me Kellar; Miss Skinner, brown costume, brown hat en suite; Miss Bedford, Brunelle Princess robe, navy hat; Miss S. The competition was won by Miss Bea Kvans. The hostess received her guests in a pale pink and blue flowered muslin, cream net yoke and undersleeves finished with bands, of. rose pink silk; Miss S. Reid, dainty white muslin; Miss Reid (Wellington), pretty costume of Nattier blue cloth; Mrs. Whetter, sea green coat and skirt, linen hat eii suite; Mrs. Freeth, black ohiffon taffetas with rich black lace coat, purple flowered toque; Miss Payne (Wellington), white silk blouse, cream cloth skirt; Mrs. Hall; Miss Hall, grey Russian costume, purple hat finished with large silk bows; Miss B. Rennell, navy blue taffetas, hat relieved with pink roses; Miss B. Evans, navy blue coat and skirt, green hat; Miss F. ■Evans, green coat and skirt, pretty purple hat; Mrs. A. 1). Gray, brown costume, toque en suite; Mrs. Foote, handsome grey taffetas, black hat with pink roses; Mrs. S. Rennell, dark tweed costume, hat to match: Mrs. Hannah, blue coat and skirt, brown hat with feathers; Miw. 1). Cock, black taffetas, black hat with feathers.

“ At Home." On Thursday evening Mr. F. S. Johns held a charming “at home," which took the form of a euehre and musical evening. The prizes were won by Mrs. W. Johns, Miss Leatham. and Mr. Collins. During the evening songs were rendered by Miss Capper and Mr. Hannah. Mrs. Johns received her guests in a cinnamon brown chiffon taffetas, relieved with cream lace; Mrs. (frappe, saxe blue taffetas, cream lace vest; Miss Gapper, dainty cream crepe de chine; Mrs. W. Johns, pretty rose pink silk, with Maltese laee shoulder scarf; Mrs. Claude Weston, pale blue taffetas, deeolletage prettily embroidered; Mrs. Hannyli,.white silk; Miss F. Miss Madeline Evans, of the Wellington hospital staff’, is on a short visit to her parents (Revi and Mrs. F. G. Evans), New Plymouth. Miss Fitzherbert. who has been visiting her friends in the Wairarapa district, returned .home last week, accompanied by Miss B. Corniack. of Carterton. Rev. arid Mrs, F. ; G. Evans have returned from. Auckland, where the former went to attend the Synod. Miss' St. George, of Wellington, is the guest of Mrs. Douglas. New Plymouth. Mr. and Mrs: Ijbniion, New Plymouth, have gone for"::' trip to Christchurch. ■ Miss Standish, wdio lias been visiting 'Auckland and Rotorua, returned to New Plymouth last week. Mrs. Fred Basham, of Eltham, is on a

visit to New Plymouth.
