HASTINGS.

October 28. Tire weather is •fearfully dry, and everyone is calling for rain, but since paying a hurried visit to the Marlborough province, where the land seems literally parched, I thought on my return, that our beautiful district of Hawke’s Bay looked so green and fertile in comparison. Mrs Newbigen gave a small impromptu afternoon tea on Monday, in honour of her guests, the Misses West, of Wellington. Ladies are finding mneh pleasure now ip croquet, and several have been entertaining a few of their friends with small eroquet parties. Personal. Mrs Haise has returned from Marton The Misses West left on Wednesday for Wellington. Miss Hewson (Auckland) is visiting Stoneycroft. Mr and Mrs Luckie, junr., were visiting Hastings during show week. Mr and Mrs Smith (Masterton) left Hastings by the express on Saturday.
