October 29. Everything has been at a standstill this week owing to the most inclement weather. The opening of the Tennis ( ourts had to be postponed. Some few enthusiasts ventured out to-day (Friday) for a game of croquet, but the grass was' very wet. Euchre Party.

Mrs. Dillon-Carbery gave a delightful euehre party on Thursday afternoon, and in spite of t'he positive deluge, quite a large, merry party foregathered. The hostess received her guests in a handsome black silk taffeea with heavy jet trimming on corsage and skirt; Mrs. Uniacke wore a becoming costume of hydrangea silk with tucked net yoke, black velvet waistcoat. Amongst the guests were: Mrs. Budge, charming blue grey chiffon cashmere, with net yoke same shade, large white hat with black wings; Mrs. Good, blue costume, large Panama hat with shaded roses; Mrs. Young, French grey coat and skirt with black braiding and very becoming vieux rose hat; Mrs. Rennell, very' handsome black velvet Princess robe, black toque; Mrs. A. Rennell, heliotrope coat and skirt, large black hat; Mrs. Paget, smart blue and white striped delaine, rush hat with masses of irises; Mrs. E. C. Robinson, embroidered white mouseline, large electric blue coarse straw hat; Mrs Richards, green costume, mole hat trimmed with pale blue silk; . Mrs. Crawshaw, striped, blue and brown costume, with pretty black toque; Mi s. C. Raikes, blue coat and skirt, large burnt straw hat; Mrs. Grant, brown costume, with black 'toque; Mrs. W. Webster, tussore silk costume trimmed with Maltese laee; Miss Glvnes. white silk, dark blue hat; Fussell, pretty pale blue flowered erepon, white hat trimmed with roses and black velvet; Mies Wake, striped green and blue costume, lace vest, burnt straw hat trimmed with bandeau of green velvet; Miss James, brown costume, black hat; Miss N. James, blue coat and skirt, white French sailor hat. Mrs. Menzies won the first prize, Mrs. Grant second prize, Mrs. Webster booby, second booby Miss Fussell. Personal. Mrs. T. (*. Fookes lias returned after a short holiday in Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. S. Porritt came back on Thursday from Auckland. Mrs. Copping and family are in New Plymouth. Mrs. Wake is paying a visit to Wan-
