August 11. A Delightful Party. Airs. Alalcolm Brodie gave a very delightful party to-day, quite 40 ladies being present. Early spring flowers brightened the drawing room. The hostess received her guests in a very smart grown of pansy-silk made in the new scarf and panier effect. Songs were rendered by Airs. Stevenson (Gisborne), Airs. Beyers, and Airs. Aliller. Aloet delicious cakes, sandwiches and tea were dispensed. Each guest wore ail emblem >f a song, some being particularly clever. Airs. Jack Beamish gained first prize, being the one who guessed the greatest number correctly, and Airs. Haise, for the nuwt original, second prize. Airs. AlcKibbin won a letter competition. Jack Miller, blue gown and soft black jetted straw, black fountain feathers; Mrs. Charles Scott, bronze gown with large bhwk hat wreathed with rosy apples and bronze leaves; Airs.

(Dr.) Bareroft looked very stylish and nice in a green cloth coat and skirt braided and buttoned, a particularly sweet hat of aeroplane green banded with gold and black wings, black fox furs; Airs. Rochfort, black eoat and skirt, sable furs, black hat; Alias Cooper looked nice in brown with becoming black hat swathed with white silk; Mrs. Lawlor, dainty little coat and skirt of military blue, black hat; Airs. Jack Beamish looked exceedingly nice in black taffeta, white embroidered stole and becoming hat, underlined with lily white; Aliss Evans looked very stylish in a pansy cloth eoat and skirt and a smart mushroom hat in two shades of pansy silk and satin; Airs. Stevenson (Gisborne), ivory voile and white silk, black mushroom hat and a lovely black lace stole; Aliss Symes, pretty Russian costume, amethyst winged hat; Airs. Stronach, hazel tweed Norfolk costume, black mushroom hat with roses and wings; Airs. Gregory, hair-lined dove tweed, becoming rose hat with shaded wings;' Airs. Gascoyne, black gown, stylish hat of black with silver embroidery bandeau, silver rye and berries; Airs. Alurray, stylish black coat and skirt, large black hat with white roses and long black ospreys; Airs. Beyers looked nice in a putty coloured tweed, Paisley waist, and a smart cinnamon straw hat; Airs. (Dr.) AlcKibbin, scarlet cloth gown braided with black, large scarlet straw mushroom banded with velvet; Airs. Fairclough, black gown, black bonnet; Airs. Croll, rose Shantung gown braided, rose hat; Airs. (Dr.) De Lisle, navy voile, smart rose hat; Airs. Haise, wedgewood blue gown, cream lace insertion, hat en suite; Airs. Beilby, dark wine cloth gown, braided, black hat; Airs. Wallace, green cloth coat and skirt, smart mushroom hat to match wreathed with shaded

leaves; Wise E. Baird, smart cream coat and skirt, mole hat with white wings; Miss —. Baird, light biscuit cloth coat and skirt, hat en suite; Miss Peddie, bronze tweed costume, saxe blue hat. Personal. Great sympathy is felt for Mr. Luckie in his long illness. Mrs. J. Miller has returned from Wellington. Mr. G. P. Donnelly has gone to Christchurch. Mrs. Gibb has returned to Marton. She has been spending some weeks with her daughter, Mrs. Halee, of the Bank of New Zealand. Mrs. Neil (Feilding) left for Feilding last Friday. Mr. and Mrs. J. 11. Lowry have gone to Christchurch. Mrs. Fairclough (Dunedin) is the guest of her daughter, Mrs. McKibbin. Mrs. Stevenson (Gisborne) is the guest of Mrs. Symes.
