June 23. Progressive Euchre. A party, arranged by Mesdames Lucena and Riddell, and Mins Dawkins, was held in the Foresters’ Hall on Friday last, Air. and Mrs. Le Coeq being the invited guests. After playing for three hours, supper was much appreciated. A presentation of a purse-bag to Mrs. Le t’oeq from the ladies present was made by the Mayorres, Airs. Gordon Maitland, the Rev. T. J. Smith making the presentation speech on her behalf. Dancing was then the order of the evening. Mrs. Riddell wore blue chiffon over silk; Mrs. Lueena, pale green taffeta; Aliss Dawkins, pale blue muslin; Airs. Le Cocq, black merv. relieved with white; Mrs. A’iekers, cream taffeta; Mrs. Eantham (Wanganui), blaek crepe* de soie over black silk; Mrs. Maitland, black, relieved with white chiffon. Others present were:—-Mesdnmes Allen, Haslett, T. J. Smith, t'avvte (Alahakipawa), Philpotts, Haughey, Williams, McCormick, Godfrey and Newman, Alisses Allen. Godfrey, Harrison, Edwards, Greensill, Philpotts, Kirkley, Easther, Williams, and Messrs. ls> Cocq, Dawkins. Lueena, Riddell, A’iekers, Fell, Emerson, Fisher, Philpotts, Foster, McCormick, Madsen, Scott, Newman, Smith and Wicks. .Miss Kirley won the first prize, and Miss Easther was a wanted the booby. Air. MeCormiek won th<l men’*? first prize, and Mr. Lueena tho booby. Euchre Tourney. A Euchre tournament was held on Monday by the fire brigade. About sixteen tables were filled. Miss Lloyd won the ladies’ first prize, and Mr. Riley the men's.

Social Gathering. The Presbyterians li*l 1 a social gathering in Fay's liall on Tuesday evening, and were fortunate in obtaining some good singers. Miss Urquart, who lias lately arrived from Scotland to visit friends in Blenheim, was the guest of Mrs. Dickson at v The Manse,” and was loudly applauded for her songs. Mr. Hutton was another songster well worth listening to. Mrs. Nicol and Mr. Fletcher also sang. Personal. Mr. Hamilton Haillie, formerly of Pieton, has resumed his duties as manager of the Foxton branch of the Hank of New Zealand, after a year’s sick leave. Mr. and Mrs. Beasley (Taranaki) have returned home, after a visit to Mr. and Mrs. Nicol, in Picton. Mrs. Cawte, who has been spending a week or two in Pieton, has returned to Mahak'ipawa. Old friends of Mr. and Mrs. Westmacott, erstwhile of Pieton, are glad to hear that they are flourishing in tho Old Country, and are enjoying life greatly in motor-car expeditions.
