March 3. Garden Party. A garden party was given at the racecourse to-day in honour of his Excellency Lord Plunket, who paid a farewell visit to Hastings for a few hours. After-noon-tea was served in the luncheon rooms on the racecourse. The tables

were prettily decorated with amethyst flowers. Among the many ladies present I noticed:—Mrs. J. Millar, cigar brown satin cloth coat and skirt, cream charmeuse satin cuffs and collar, large brown velvet hat with two shaded brown plumes; Mrs. Gascoyne, black satin brocade Direetoire gown, white silk stole, black satin straw hat; Mrs. H. Personal, The friends of Sir Wm. Russel will be sorry to hear that he is slightly indisposed. Mrs. Fergusson has gone to Dannevirke.

Miss Hodge is leaving this week for England. Mrs. and Misses Bain (Canterbury) are visiting Hawke’s Bay. Miss Hewson is the guest’ of Mrs. Beamish, Stoneycroft.
