February 11. Au Enjoyable Social. A very enjoyable social was held in the Theatre Royal last Friday evening, to bid farewell t’o Mr. and Airs. Claridge and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Bannerman, who are leaving the district. A large number of ladies and gentlemen were present. Great disappointment was expressed by all at the unavoidable absence of Mr. and Mrs. ( laridge. who were represented by Mr. Claridge. jun. The Rev. Mr. Ward and Mrs. Ward, on behalf of the citizens of Taumarunni. presented Air. and Mrs. Bannerman with a handsome silver-mounted bag and silver pincushion in stand. Mr. Thompson and Mrs. Dickson presented Air. and Airs. ( laridge with a silver teapot and pipe. Among those present I noticed: Dr. Adam Monfries, handsome black silk Empire; Mrs. Riches looked pretty in brown silk: Mrs. Thompson, white lustre; Airs. Dirkson. white; Airs. Ward, white: Mrs. OXbagher. black silk; Aliss Callaway, dark skirt, pretty cream silk blouse; Airs. Bannerman. Irlmk: Mis. On Thursday evening, Miss Gill, matron of the local hospital, gave a very pleasant euchre party in •honour of Nurse Gladys Nixon, who is now about to sever her connection with the nursing profession. Ihe commodious vera ndah was cosily closed in with Japanese curtains, and lighted with Chinese lanterns. Among those present I noticed: Mrs. Dr. Howard, black voile skirt, cream silk blouse; Mrs. Kenderdine, black silk trimmed with cream lace; Dr Adams-Mon-fries, ’black silk; Mrs. Ward, white muslin; Mrs. Reed, black voile skirt, cream silk blouse: Mrs. Dickson, pretty creme cashmere; Mrs. Thorne, white silk; Mrs. Long, dainty pink mousseline; Mrs Laird, looked 'handsome in white embroidered muslin; Mrs. Gardner, black silk skirt, creme lace blouse; Mrs. Neill, black skirt, Chinese silk blouse; Mrs. Maher, black voile; Mrs Parker, black skirt, cream crepe blouse; Miss Gill, uniform; Miss Gladys Nixon, uniform; Miss Young, white embroidered muslin; Miss Dickson, very pretty cream silk; Miss Laird, heliotrope muslin; Miss Grant looked pretty in white ninon; Miss Nixon, white muslin.
