NEW PLYMOUTH.

October 14. A Dance. Last Wednesday evening in the Brougham-street Hall the Misses B. and L. Webs'ter gave a most enjoyable dance, and it was thought by many to have been the nicest of the season, the night being bright and crisp, and the floor, which was exquisite, was not too crowded, and last, but not least, a most recherche supper, which was served in one of the off rooms, the table looking charming, with its appetising dishes and vases of exquisitely arranged flowers, the blooms being yellow, brown, and nasturtiums. The music was rendered by Mrs. W. Wood. Amongst those present were: Mrs. W. D. Webster, black silk relieved wi th real lace; Miss Webster, white muslin, gold ceinture, with pale pink flowers on corsage; Miss L. Webster, pale blue taffetas, cream net chemisette and undersleeves; Miss W. Webster, white insertioned muslin; Miss L. Devore (Auckland), bi-cuit coloured taffetas, prettily trimmed with cream lace; Miss Pike, black silk relieved with cream; Miss Wade, cream silk corsage trimmed with heliotrope; Miss Read, black silk, cream net chemisette and undersleeves; Miss Godfrey, black net over satin; Misses M. and K. Bradbury, pale pink muslin, trimmed with Valenciennes lace. Bridee. Mrs. Fitzherbert gave a most enjoyable bridge party at her pretty home in Devon-street West last Friday evening in

honour of her guest, Miss Cormack, of Carterton. There were ten tables, and the prizes were won by Miss D. Bedford, first; Mr. Hansen, first; Miss Bradbury, second. There were also five euchre tables, and the prizes were won by Miss Webster, first; Mr. McCurd, first; and the boobies were won by Miss B. Evans and Mr. Austin Bewley. Cards were played in the drawing and dining-room, while a most recherche supper was served in the billiard, the tables looking lovely, with specimen vases of pale pink and yellow flowers. During the evening musical items were rendered by Misses L. and S. Fitzherbert, E. Standish, Leatham, F. Evans, Mr. Wilks; while Messrs. V. Fitzherbert and F. J. Easther gave some very amusing recitations. Personal. Mr. and Mrs. Standish (New Plymouth) are on a visit to Wellington. Miss J. McAllum (of Hamilton) is on a visit to her home in New Plymouth. Miss Brailsford (Wellington) is the guest of Mrs. Mac Diarmid (.\i w Plymouth).
