Dear Bee, Octcber :S. A very enjoyable “AT HOME” was given last Tuesday by Airs Thomas, wife of Dr. Thomas, conductor for the Choral Society, at her pretty residence, St. Stephen’s Avenue. The floral decorations were most lovely, the tables in the dining-room being arranged with yellow nasturtiums and banksia roses, and the other rooms exquisitely adorned with flowers in three perfcel ly blending shades of purple. 1 don’t know when I have seen anything so pretty. Songs were contributed by Mis;; Margot Somerset, Mhs Mariemmc Taylor, and Mrs Collins (wife of Dr. Collins, of Auckland Hospital). Delicious afternoon lea was served, and a most enjoyable afternoon was spent. LARGE GARDEN PARTY AT MUKDEN.

Mrs Neligan and His Lordship the Bishop of Auckland gave a targe garden party on Saturday afternoon in honour of the meeting of the Anglican Synod. It was a perfect spring afternoon, mid the picturesque old garden looked its brightest and best, while the view from the balcony down Parnell and across the harbour was truly superb. The arrangements for the entertainment of the many guests were very complete. A string band was in attendance, and played a capital selection of music. The Unique Quartette rendered several items and received the honour of many encores, one of them being double. Their contributions certainly afforded much pleasure, and the quartette may be congratulated. Afternoon tea and refreshments were .served both in the gardens and on the verandah. The Bishop and Mrs Neligan were indefatigable in their attention to their guests, and the parly was one of the brightest and most successful ever held at Bishopscourt. CHILDREN’S FANCY DRESS DANCE AT DEX ONPORT.

A large number of children danced together and spent a thoroughly happy evening last Monday, in the cause of “sweet charitie,” the occasion being a dance in aid of the funds of the forthcoming bazaar. The scene of the juvenile revels was the Foresters’Hall,Devonport, and there for several hours the little people had an enjoyable time, giving place aliont 10 o'clock to their equally gaily attired ciders, who continued the dance until an early hour. The dance was under 1 lie auspices of a strong ladies’ committee, w ho provided the supper, and were most energetic in making the dance the success it proved to be. Air. Bartley's orchestra kindly gave their services, and discoursed an excellent scries of dance music. The hall was beautifully decorated for the occasion, and presented a very gay scene when the young folk in their varied garb opened • the dance with the Grund Alareh. There was a great variety of costumes, and dresses symbolical of flowers and seasons, and the usual contingent of fishergirls, shepherdesses, Geishas, while war and rumours of war produced a large number of miniature soldiers. Amongst the various costumes chosen was a bride’s, worn by Aliss Alccstis St. Clair; Aliss Pauline St. Clair represented a cornflower, and her sister made a fascinating doctor of laws; the. Alisses Alyrtle AVynyard anil Jackson made two charming Maoris; Miss J. Niccol was. an interesting fishergirl; Aliss AfcLean made a sweet Scotch lassie; Aliss Nita Alcnzies was a bright little Daisy; Alasters Davis and Rengi Ford were miniature soldiers; Jack Graham, a sailor; Tana Allen, as Fauntleroy, and his brother a Scotch laddie; Aliss Irene Quecrie wore a striking red, white, and blue; Aliss Ivy Burgess made a dainty Folly; Alias G. A most successful rendering of the ever-bright comedy, “Alueh Ado About Nothing,” was given by the Shakespeare Society in the Y.ALC.A. Hall on October Cth. EUCHRE PARTY. ' Mr and Mrs Edmund Mahony, RiroMannga, Mount Eden, entertained about 60 of their son’s young friends on Thursday evening, when a most enjoyable time was spent. There were 13 tables, ami some most interesting and keen games were contested. The Misres Clare Haven and E. Udy were the winners of the ladies’ prizes, and Messrs Jack Richardson and 11. Alexander won the gentlemen’s prizes. The garden was beautiful'y illuminated with fairy ’amps, nnd Chinese lanterns suspended from the trees and shrubs, giving the place quite an Oriental effect. The supper was served in the morning room and on the spacious verandah. The table, prettily deeorated with spring flowers, was laden with all manner of delicacies. Miss Audrey Stubbs gained the prize (a very pretty gold laee pin) for guessing the greatest mnnber of books correctly, and Miss Morrow Came second and won the consolation prize. Two booby prizes were also given. A delicious afternoon tea was provided, the tables being beautifully decorated with yellow tulips ami pretty spring grasses. DANCE AT WAfHI. One of the most enjoyable donees of the season was held in the Academy of Music on October 7th, Writes a Waihi correspondent. The hall was very gay, being tastefully deeorated with flags and bunting. One of the features of the dance was the excellent music supplied by Booth’s Band (Thames). Extras were played by’ Aliss I’ower and Air Coote. The supper, which was in the hands of the committee, was everything that could be desired. The tables were nicely decorated with yellow primroses and daffodils. A word of praise is due to the secretary, Air J. Quick, who was ablyassisted by a strong committee, consisting of Alesdames Barry and Cine, Alisscs Eofthouse, I'orster. Clarke and Quick, and Alessrs Cave, Banks, Jackson, Hazard, Alueller and Graham.
