Dear Bee, October 11. On Thursday evening a LARGE DANCE was given in the Provincial Hall by Mr Newman Smith and Mr S. Marjoribanks. All the arrangements were perfect, and everything was done to make the evening a complete success. The hall was beautifully and elaborately decorated with flags, white I owers and greenery, whilst mirrors were hung on the walls, and a portion of the east end was curtained off and furnished as a delightfully cosy drawing-room. The suppertables were adorned with white and yellow flowers. All manner of delicacies were here provided—chickens, turkeys, ham, oysters, jellies, trifles, salads, etc., etc., and champagne. Mrs Renwick, who wore a handsome black gown finished with white lace, received the guests with our two hosts. Amongst those present were Mrs Robertson, black, white cap; Mrs Watts, very handsome gown of ruby \elvet; Mrs Leggatt, black velvet, with a fichu of white lace; Mrs Pitt, black silk; Mrs Robison looked very handsome in heliotrope broche satin; Mrs A. P. Burnes, black merveilleux, with sleeves of gathered white lace, and finished on the shoulders with red velvet bows; Mrs Percy Adams, an exceedingly handsome gown of rose pink moire silk, the corsage being girthed at the waist with a band of ruby velvet; Mrs Sweet, maize silk, finished on the bodice with sapphire blue velvet; Mrs Kingdon, white silk, the bodice richly embroidered with white jet; Mrs (Dr) Roberts, pink; Mrs E. •TAMtNG OF THE SHREW’ in the Theatre Royal, there was a very large audience, ami some smart dresses were worn, those of the performers being specially admired. Miss Gribben, as ‘Katharine,’ the Shrew, looked particularly handsome in the first part in a trained gown of blue silk, with velvet bodice, and afterwards in a bridal dress of white silk, liehly embroiderd with gold; Miss N.
