Dear Bee October 15. At the CONCERT given last Thursday night by the Festival Choral Society, Miss Ramsay, one of the performers, was wearing a handsome fawn satin gown, the bodice trimmed with black velvet and coffee lace;Miss Tansley looked well in a pretty pale green and pink gown; Miss Medley, black silk with sleeves of sky blue silk. Among the audience were Lord and Lady Ranfurly, who were accompanied by Captain Ward and Air Garland. Lady Ranfurly was wearing a handsome black satin gown, the bodice slightly trimmed with lace, and she wore a handsome sable cape. Others I noticed were: Airs Aledley, Airs Pynsent, Airs Barron, and the Alisses Barron, Airs and Aliss Alee, Airs Biss, Aliss Swainson, Airs and the Alisses Quick, Aliss Pharazyn, Airs Kennedy, Airs and Aliss Barnett, Airs F. Allen, Airs and the Alisses Gore, Airs Fisher, Airs and the Alisses Prouse. Airs and Miss Grady, the Misses Koch. Airs and the Alisses Parker, the Alisses Barbor, Liddle, Harris, Putmann and others. Airs tVallis opened the SALE OF WORK which was held in the Sydney street Schoolroom on Tuesday and Wednesday. It was in aid of the Melanesian Mission and the country districts. The sale was organised by the ladies of the Thorndon Parish. The room looked very pretty, each stall being draped with different colours. The afternoon tea and sweet departments seemed to be doing a very brisk business. Airs Tolhurst, with her daughters and the Alisses Davy, presided over the refreshments, which were to be had on the stage. Other stallholders were Mrs Barraud ami Afiss Alarchant, Mrs Ashcroft and Airs Morison. .Mrs and the Alisses Faneourt. Mrs Knowles and the Alisses Richardson, Mrs Warren and the Misses Brandon. Mrs Wallis was wearing a pink silk gown, veiled in grey canvas, and a pretty black and white hat trimmed with jet and tips: her sister wore a grey costume and green straw hat trimmed with ehiffon and flowers: Mrs Rhodes, black silk gown and eape trimmed with jet, and black bonnet with turquoise blue velvet and black tips; Lady Hector, black jacket and skirt, and jet bonnet with violets and tips; Miss Pearce, black costume, black bonnet trimmed with pink roses and laee: Mrs MaePln-rson, black silk gown, the bodice trimmed with pink silk and laee; Aliss Dunean, green’

jacket and skirt, white silk front, and small toque of pink roses and tips; Miss MacKenzie, fawn crepon gown trimmed with cotfee lace, large hat to match with brown feathers; Miss MacKenzie, black crepon with front of pale pink chiffon, large black hat trimmed with feathers; Mrs Ashcroft, black silk gown and black and white bonnet; Miss Taylor, neat, fawn tailormade costume, white tailor hat; Miss Studholm, electric blue Eton costume, black toreador hat. with tips and deep pink roses; Mrs Harper, black costume; Mrs Fitzherbert, black tailor-made costume, and blaek and yellow bonnet; Miss Fitzherbert, green costume; Mrs Oliver, blue costume, large brown hat with feathers. An excellent CONCERT was given in the Opera House on Tuesday night by the Orchestral Society, under the baton of Mr Maughan Barnett. Besides the delightful orchestral pieces, songs were sung by Mr Mozar, of Sydney, who has a very sweet tenor voice; and the Meistersingers, Messrs J. W. Hill, (J. .1. Hill, 11. Smith, and R. Boot, made their first appearance and sang several unaccompanied part songs, which brought down the house, each item being encored. There was a very good audience, a few I noticed being: Mrs and Miss. Higginson, the former wearing a black silk gown and white cloak: Miss Harcourt, black satin, and white cloak trimmed with fur; Mrs Prouse, black silk gown; Miss Prouse, white muslin trimmed with lace; Miss Lee, black velvet with fichu of white lace; Mrs Hislop, black silk gown trimmed with jet and lace; Miss Hislop, black silk, the bodice of which was trimmed with an edging of pale blue chiffon; Miss G. Henry, black silk skirt, pale blue silk blouse; Miss Fraser, black silk gown, and pale blue cloak trimmed with white fur; Mrs Whit all, cream satin dress, the bodice trimmed with pearls; Miss Harding, black skirt and pretty silk evening blouse; Miss Gore, black gown and old rose silk cloak trimmed with lace; Miss Rose, dark skirt, pale blue silk blouse trimmed with lace; Miss Barbor, cream muslin dress; Miss Turton, black silk skirt, pale blue silk evening blouse; Miss Seed, dark skirt and striped silk blouse trimmed with lace; Miss O’Connor, black silk gown, the bodice effectively trimmed with pale blue; Mrs Ross, black silk gown trimmed with jet and lace; Miss Ross, yellow silk with black lace on the bodice; Miss Stewart, white silk gown, and cape bound with fur; Mrs Young, black silk gown; Miss Gibson, white gown and red cloak; Mrs Gill, black silk gown trimmed with lace; Miss Gill, black silk, the bodice trimmed with pink; Miss —. Gill, a pretty white silk gown trimmed with chiffon; Mrs Grady; Miss Grady, black silk gown; Mrs and the Misses Kirkcaldie; Mrs Mee, black silk gown with white lace fichu; Mrs Harris, pink; Miss West, yellow silk gown, the bodice trimmed with chiffon; Miss —. West, white muslin, with scarlet flowers on the bodice; Mrs Gee. black satin, white cloak. Among the ladies who were playing in the orchestra were Miss Kennedy, who wore a blaek silk gown; Miss G. Kennedy, black velvet, with white lace berthe; Miss (). Gore, black velvet and white lace; Miss Elliott, white muslin; Miss Henry, black velvet, and fichu of white chiffon; Miss Barbor. white muslin dress; Miss Stewart also wore a white dress trimmed with lace; Mrs Levi, who played the pianoforte part with the orchestra in the concerto, wore a pale yellow silk, the bodice trimmed with chiffon. Lord and Lady Ranfurly entertained a few people at dinner on Saturday night. Among the number were the Hon. Mr and Mrs Butler, the Rev. Miami Mrs Paterson, Mrs and Miss Williams, Miss Bullen. Bishop and Mrs Wallis, and others. On Monday afternoon last a reception was held at Government House for the visiting members of the Synod. On Tuesday night a dinner party and small dance was held at Government House. A few who were present were Dr. and Mrs Grace, Mr. Mrs and Miss Amelins Smith, Sir Walter and Miss Buller, Miss Stowe, Miss Pharaz.yn. Sir Arthur and Lady Douglas, ami the Misses Douglas and others. Now that the day of which there has been so much talk is drawing near, everyone is busy either making or getting made their fancy dresses. One hears of splendid costumes to be

worn on this occasion, so, no doubt, it will the ball to be remembered in Wellington for some years.
