Dear Bee, October 14. A BRILLIANT BALL was given on Wednesday evening in the Gaiety Theatre by the Bachelors of Hawke’s Bay, and everything was done to make it the ball of the season. The floor was perfect, the music was inspiriting, and the supper recherche. The decorations were beautifully carried out. Mirrors magnified the size of the ballroom, and ferns, palms and Chinese lanterns lent the scene quite a fairy-like aspect. Mrs Kettle wore a stylish black silk gown, with bead embroidery; Mrs Waterhouse was in a black broche gown, relieved with maize; Mrs Russell wore black and gold brocade; Mrs Wenley was in a pink satin dress, and the bodice was trimmed with white chiffon and a spray of green leaves and heliotrope flowers; Miss Macfarlane was in a pale blue dress; Miss Balfour wore black satin and cream silk; Mrs T. Moore, white silk, relieved with apple green; Miss Gleeson, black and pale blue; Mrs Lines looked well in a pale blue satin gown, trimmed with chiffon; Miss Violet Twigg (debutante) was much admired in a lovely dress of white tulle over white satin; Miss Donnelly looked exceedingly well in pink satin and sequins; Mrs J.
