Inquests.
An inquest was held at Christchurch, on the 13th October, 1863, by J. W. S. Coward, Esq., Coroner, on the body of McClelland, an infant, aged seven months, who died on the 11th instant, from disease of the lungs. Verdict —“ Died of natural causes.”
A magisterial inquiry was held at Lyttelton, on the 22nd instant, by Robert Latter, Esq., J.P., on the body of G. C. Beers, mariner, who was drowned in the Bay, on the 3rd instant, while proceeding to his vessel. Verdict—“ Accidentally drowned.”—22nd October, 1863.
An inquest was held at Lyttelton, on the 27th October, 1863, before "William Donald, Esq., Coroner, on the body of Mary Ann Hawthorn, aged two years, who died on the 16th inst.
Verdict, that deceased died from convulsions, brought on by accidental scalding. —28th October, 1863.
An inquest was held at Kaiapoi, on the 27th October, 1863, before C. Dudley, Esq., Coroner, on the body of Arthur Mannering Worsley, aged 28 years, who died on the 25th inst., of concussion of the brain, caused by a fall from a horse. Verdict —“Accidental death.”—26th October, 1863.
A magisterial inquiry was held at Kaiapoi, on the 7th October, 1863, before Josiah Birch, Esq., J.P., on the bodies of Mary Eaton, aged 42 years, and Jemima Ann Eaton, aged 2% years, who were drowned on the 2nd inst., whilst crossing the Hurunui, in a bullock dray. Verdict —“Accidental drowning.” —Bth October, 1863.
