LABOUR BILLS COMMITTEE (REPORTS OF THE). (Mr. C. H. CHAPMAN, Chairman.)

ORDERS OF REFERENCE. Extracts from, the Journals of the House of Representatives. Thursday, the 11th Day oj July, 1940. Ordered, " That a Select Committee be appointed, consisting of ten members, to consider all Bills or other matters relating to labour which may be referred to it: the Committee to consist of Mr. Barrell, Mr. Chapman, Mr. Coleman, Mr. Combs, the Hon. Mr. Hamilton, Mr. Holland, Mr. McKeen, Mr. Ncilson, Mr. Poison, and the Mover."—(Right Hon.' Mr. Eraser, for Mr. Webb.) Ordered, " That during the present session all Select Committees appointed by the House have leave to sit on days on which the House is not sitting, provided that when it is proposed to sit on any such day at least three days' notice shall bo given to each member of the Committee of the date of the sitting."—(Right Hon. Mr. Praskr.) Ordered, " That all petitions not finally dealt with during the session of 1939 be again referred to the same Committees as they were referred to during the said session."—(Right Hon. Mr. Eraser.) Wednesday, the 28th Day or August, 1940. Ordered, " That the Labour Bills Committee have leave to sit during the present sitting of the House." (Mr. Chapman.) Ordered, " That the Statutes Amendment Bill be referred to the Labour Bills Committee in order to consider clauses 18, 4t>, 58, and 59 (relating to industrial conciliation and arbitration, shops and offices, and workers' compensation)." —(Right Hon. Mr. Fraser.) Tuesday, the Ist Day of October, 1940. Ordered, " That the Shops and Offices Amendmont Bill be referred to the Labour Bills Committee." (Hon. Mr. Webb.) REPORTS. Statutes Amendment Bill. I have the honour to report that the Labour Bills Committee has carefully considered clauses 18, 46, 58, and 59 of the Statutes Amendment Bill which were referred to it, and recommends that they be allowed to proceed without amendment. 28th August, 1940. Shops and Offices Amendment Bill. I have the honour to report that the Labour Bills Committee has carefully considered the Shops and Offices Amendment Bill and taken evidence thereon. The Committee recommends that, in view of the strong divergence of opinion regarding the proposals contained in the Bill, the Bill be not proceeded with, but suggests that the Government give consideration to the question of the general consolidation of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, and its amendments. 26th November, 1940.
