Education Amendment Bill. I have the honour to report that the Education Committee has carefully considered the Education Amendment Bill and recommends that it be allowed to proceed with the amendment as shown on the copy of the Bill annexed hereto. C. R. Petrie, for Chairman. 22nd October, 1936.

No. 183.—Petition of A. H. Cato, of Te Kaha, Poverty Bay. Praying for a compassionate allowance on account of losses allegedly sustained while employed as a Native-school teacher. I have the honour to report that the Committee has carefully considered this petition and recommends that the petition be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. The Committee is of the opinion that adequate compensation be paid for losses sustained through illness of petitioner and his wife in the course of their duties. 28th October, 1936.

No. 9. —Petition of Alexander M. Cowan, of Rama Rama, Auckland. Praying for a compassionate grant or pension on account of illness allegedly contracted while employed as a school-teacher at Niue. I have the honour to report that the Committee has carefully considered this petition, and recommends that the petition be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 28th October, 1936.

Final Report. I have the honour to report that the Education Committee, consisting of ten members, has held twelve meetings during the session, with an average attendance of seven members. Fifteen petitions were referred to the Committee; of these, ten were considered and reported on to the House. Five petitions are held over until next session. The Committee considered and reported on to the House the Education Amendment Bill. Clyde Carr, Chairman. 28th October, 1936.

Special Report. I have the honour to report that the Education Committee desires to record its appreciation of the care and ability with which the Chairman, Rev. Clyde Carr, has conducted the business of the Committee during the session; and it also desires that this resolution shall be recorded on the minutes of the Committee and be reported to the House. T.
