No. 348, 1935.—Petition of Edward H. C. Ridder, of Halswell, Canterbury. Praying for compensation for an allegedly unjust fine imposed upon him. I have the honour to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 7th May, 1936.
No. 203, 1935.—Petition of Margaget Warner, of Lower Hutt. Praying for compensation for loss of employment. I have the honour to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 7th May, 1936.
No. 27,—Petition of John Mitchell, F.N.Z.1.A., Architect, of Rotorua. Praying for payment of the sum of £525, being balance of architect's fees allegedly due in connection with the design and erection of the Seddon Memorial Technical College at Auckland. I have the honour to report that the Education Committee has carefully considered this petition and recommends that it be referred to the Government for most favourable consideration, and the Committee is of opinion that the basis of compensation should be the commission on the difference between the amount of the tender accepted and the amount of the lowest tender for the larger scheme. 28th May, 1936.
No. 119,—Petition of J. McLauchlan, Sturgess Road, Henderson, Auckland. Praying that he be granted a superannuation allowance, and that it be made retrospective to 1917. 1 I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for consideration. 6th August, 1936.
No. 75. —Petition of C. Christie, of Portrose, Southland. Praying for an inquiry into the manner in which the Portrose School Committee and the Southland Education Board dealt with his complaints as to his son's treatment at a public school. I have the honour to report that the Education Committee has carefully considered this petition and has no recommendation to make. The Committee, however, desires to express the opinion that the Southland Education Board could have dealt with the petitioner in a more tactful manner. Bth September, 1936.
No. 198.—Petition of L. D. Mackay, of Pahia, Wallace, Southland. Praying for the appointment of a Commission to inquire into the proceedings of the Teachers' Grading Appeal Board in connection with his appeal for regrading. I have the honour to report that the Education Committee has carefully considered this petition and has no recommendation to make. Bth September, 1936.
No. 245,—Petition of Christina Goodbidge,-15 Cecil Road, Mount Eden, Auckland. Praying for compassionate or other relief on account of alleged wrongful dismissal from the services of the Education Department. I have the honour to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 6th October, 1936.
No. 316, 1934,—Petition of A. Smith, Deputy Chairman, Nelson Central School, Nelson, and 23 Others. Praying that with a view to obviating the down-grading of public primary schools the numbers determining the grades and sub-grades be reduced by 10 per cent. I have the honour to report that the member in charge of the petition having expressed a desire to withdraw same, the Committee recommends that he be allowed to do so 6th October, 1936.
