REPORTS. No. 44. —Petition of Margaret Amy Jacobsen, of Wellington. Praying for a compassionate allowance owing to her husband being killed while engaged excavating at Porirua Mental Hospital. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration ; and that the Committee desires to add a rider recommending that arising out of this case the matter of providing skilled supervision of all classes of excavating and quarrying work be considered by the Minister in charge of Mental Hospitals, in order that accidents of this kind may be prevented. 28th August, 1929.

No. 113.—Petition of P. L. Hollings, of Bay of Islands. Praying for reinstatement as a Stipendiary Magistrate. lam directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. The Committee is satisfied that there are no aspersions on the character of Mr. P. L. Hollings, but the matter of reappointment must rest with the Government. 28th August, 1929.

No. 64. —Petition of Percy B. Harris, of Wellington. Praying that a Select Committee be set up to consider his case. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 28th August, 1929.

No. 84. —Petition of Hancock and Co., Ltd., of Auckland. Praying for remission of land-tax penalty. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committe the petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration; and that the penalty be reduced from £371 7s. 7d. to £100. 28th August, 1929.

No. 204. —Petition of Charles Henry Greenhead, of Auckland. Praying for clearance of character and compensation in respect of an alleged miscarriage of justice. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make, as Mr. Greenhead had given a written undertaking not to broach the matter again, 28th August, 1929.

No. 109.—Petition of Joseph Cody, of Ohakune. Praying for compensation in respect of a wholesale wine and spirit license granted by the Waimarino Licensing Bench and subsequently cancelled. 1 am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committte the petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 28th August, 1929.

No. 47.—Petition of Flora Mary Commins, of Waikaraka. Praying for compensation for land taken by the Public Works Department for railway purposes. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 28th August, 1929.

No. 36. —Petition of Cecil Maunsell Blackmore, of Waipori. Praying for compensation for loss of community owing to passing of the Dunedin City Corporation Empowering Act, 1924. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 28th August, 1929.
