With reference to my despatch, No. 180, of the 28th July, forwarding copies of the British Nationality and Status of Aliens (in New Zealand) Bill, to my despatch, No. 346, of the 19th December last, and to previous correspondence on the subject of British nationality and status of aliens, I have the honour to transmit to you the accompanying copies of the New Zealand Parliamentary Debates, Nos. 10 and 11, containing, on pages 935 to 946 and 1009 to 1017, respectively, the report of an interesting discussion on the Bill in the Legislative Council on Ist August and 2nd August arising out of the motion moved by the Right Honourable Sir Francis Bell that the Bill be read a second time.
