No. 143/25. —Petition of Riri M. Kawiti and 3 Others. Petitioners allege that the Opua Block, Bay of Islands, was wrongfully taken by the Crown, and they pray for restitution. I am directed to report that the Committee is of opinion this petition should be referred to the Government for inquiry. 24th September, 1925. [Translation.] No. 143/25. —Pitihana a Riri M. No. 228/25. —Petition of Violet Newdick, of Maketu. Petitioner alleges that through the action of a certain Pakelia and the Survey Department she and her family have been prevented from making use of their lands on the Maketu Peninsula. She prays for compensation and relief. I am directed to report that the Committee is of opinion that if the consolidation of interests in the Maketu lands were expedited the troubles set forth in the petition would be solved, and it therefore recommends the petition be referred to the Government for consideration. 24th September, 1925. I am directed to report that, as the petitioner has not exhausted his legal remedies, the Committee lias no recommendation to make. 24th September, 1925. Native Land Amendment and Native Land Claims Adjustment Bill. I am directed to report that the Native Affairs Committee, to which was referred the Native Land Amendment and Native Land Claims Adjustment Bill, has duly considered the same, and recommends that the Bill be allowed to proceed, subject to the amendments shown on a copy of the Bill attached hereto. 25th September, 1925.
