CANTERBURY LAND DISTRICT. Akaroa Domain. Reserves Xos. 88 and 1724, Akaroa Survey District, and Section No. 45, Town of Akaroa. Area, 10 acres 2 roods. Work done during year : Superfluous trees removed and cut into firewood, and walks, paths, and fences kept in order. Improvements now on domain: Substantial fences, macrocarpa hedge, summer-house, block-house, two bridges, fountain, water-supply, gates, garden-seats, asphalt tennis-court, and avenues of native and exotic trees and shrubs. Used for tennis, picnics, and general recreation. Proposed operations for ensuing year: General maintenance. A caretaker is employed. Aorangi Domain. Part of Reserve No. 2652, Mueller Survey District. Area, 24,000 acres. This domain is under the control of the Tourist Department. Work done during year: An annexe containing accommodation for thirteen persons erected, rabbits destroyed, and hut repaired. Used as a scenic resort. It is proposed to acquire an additional 19 acres near the present Hermitage as a site for the new accommodation-house. Arowhenua Domain. Reserves Nos. 3003 to 3013, and 3412, Town of Arowhenua. Area, 10 acres 3 roods 26 perches. Leased to fifteen tenants for cropping and grazing. Work done during year: Taumatakahu Creek cleared of weeds. Ashburton Domain. Area, 90 acres, situated in the Town of Ashburton. Work done during year : Shade-house with fernery erected, rosery laid out, propagatinghouse enlarged, new works in connection with the drainage and water-supply at the sports-ground pavilion carried out, superfluous trees removed, and general maintenance. Improvements now on domain : About four miles fencing, curator's lodge, propagating-house, pavilion, grandstand, shade-house, tool-house, bathing and other sheds, three asphalt and five grass tennis-courts, meteorological station, tennis and bowling pavilions, water-supply (with tanks, wheel, stand, and pipes), asphalt cycling-track, cricket-ground, croquet and bowling greens, lakes, plantations, rosery, flower-gardens, and wood, stone, and iron gates. Used for sports, cricket, football, hockey, running, tennis, bowls, croquet, picnics, Volunteer encampments, and general recreation. A brass band quickstep competition and garden party was held in the domain during the year. Proposed operations for ensuing year : Forming and planting a carriage-drive through the upper portion of the domain, erecting sanitary conveniences, and general maintenance. Ashley Gorge Domain. Reserves Nos. 3094, Block IV, Oxford Survey District, and 3231, Block XVI, Upper Ashley Survey District, XII, Mount Thomas Survey District, TV, Oxford Survey District, and I, Mairaki Survey District. Area, 74 acres. No improvements effected during year. Improvements now on domain : Fences, road, re-tiring-room for ladies, fireplaces, and plantation. Used for picnics. Ataahua Domain. Reserve No. 3705, Block 111, Ellesmere Survey District. Area, 5 acres 3 roods 39 perches. Work done during year : Fences maintained, trees attended to, and others planted. Improvements now on domain : Fences, plantations, gates, football-ground and goal - posts. Used for athletic sports. Three acres leased as a grazing paddock for school children's horses. Proposed operations for ensuing year: Planting trees and laying on water-supply. Burke's Pass Domain. Reserve No. 1595, Block VIII, Burke Survey District. Area, 45 acres and 3 perches. Work done during year : Grass sown. Improvements now on domain : Ring fence, and 2 acres fenced and planted with trees of various kinds. Used for picnics and general recreation : a portion is also used for grazing. Proposed operations for ensuing year : Planting and surfacesowing. Cart.eton Domain. Reserves Nos. 2808 and 2858, Block V, Mairaki Survey District. Area, 13 acres 3 roods. Work done during year : Hedges trimmed, picket-fence painted, and general repairs. Improvements now on domain : Fences, hedges, plantation, building, and concrete cricket-pitch. Used for sports, cricket, football, and general recreation. Cashmere Hills Domain. Reserve No. 161, Halswell Survey District. Area, 188 acres 3 roods 11 perches. One hundred and sixty acres leased : lessee to keep premises leased in good order, and supply visitors with refreshments at reasonable prices. Work done during year: Planting and fencing. Improvements now on domain : House, cow-shed, "stable, Victoria Memorial pavilion (brick). Rolleston Memorial gate, fences, plantations, house and nursery, and conveniences. Used for picnics and general recreation.
